That's what you get when you ask the people what they want.

I understand it's an important issue, but are they trying to say that duly elected politicians are not democratic enough to decide what could possibly be one of the most important issues for Europe this century?

Shit, let's hold referenda on how MRSA should be tackled, how to deal with the 'immigration' issue and what to do with paedophiles.

This seems to be the forum to ask the eternal question.
Why are clowns scientifically proven to be scary?
Aren't they funny ha ha?
Was Bozo the clown really scary?
Did the origins start with the mass murderer John Wayne Gacy?
Does this mean Santa Claus' are scary?

akots
06-06-2005, 19:41
I first saw a scary clown in an American movie. Russian clowns are good and funny and never scary like they should be. I liked them a lot when I was a kid.

Melifluous
06-06-2005, 20:20
Cannons are cool. Cannons rock. They go bang and stuff.

Clowns are just creepy, and don't give me none of that "Western Clowns" are inferior crap, not every kid has seen "It" by Stephen King (although I was more scared by that bloke who used to be in the Waltons).

As with most things impressions are formed when first encountering the object.

Normally cannons are just firing people into nets or shooting glitter about, not blowing large groups of people armed with muskets into fractal red and wibbly shapes.

Whereas clowns look weird and probably smell and stuff.

The clowns in Dumbo when the elephant gets pissed will haunt me to the end of my days...

Melifluous

PS. We do fear the admins, I sacrifice a decent thread idea every night in some vain hope of appeasing them...

Don't you think crows are kind of scarier than clowns? The movie "The Birds" had lots of scary crows. Maybe they should've shot a cannon off and stuff. I'll bet that would've scared all the birds away.

In fact these birds were attacking people where akots lives...

Rodeo is in March here. Now all cows are mad hidden in air-conditioned stables. It is 96F here and 85% humidity. The milk would get sour in a minute and their meat will rot on a living animal in such weather.

Rodeo clowns are actually sometimes better in chasing the bulls than the actual riders. Or so it seemed to me while I watched this rodeo last year.

A child always gets a good laught when someone gets his by another object.

Remember Homer Simpson when he sees man hit in the groin by a football.

Nevetheless a child never seems to like when someone gets thansformed. I've seen many cry out when an uncle puts on a whig (sp?) or run away when some one they know grows a beard.

Certainly the opposite.
There are a couple like that that you don't like when you learn the language like Black and Blanc (white)

What I'm still getting mixed up when you spell is "J" (english) is pronouced the same way as "G" in french and "J" pronouced in french is close as "G" in english.[crazyeye]

barbu1977
06-06-2005, 23:16
I heard some people do that, but it is not widely used. I suspect it is done to mimic the english version of it. (I find those poeple less funny now :(, I tough they invented it)

What is often used here before using english words in frech speech would be "like they would say in China" meaning that that word is clearly not to be used in that sentence, but some of those english words are mutch easier to put in a sentence than the french equivalent.

Normaly Thuesday is my board game night with friend when we gather to someones place, eat diner and play 1 or 2 board games. Our favorite titles include:
Puerto Rico, Bang, Settlers of Katan, Age of Steam, Dschunke, Carcassone, Princes of Florence and Ave Ceasar.

Unfortunatly whith the poeple moving in houses this summer, we have not plyed in a while, but are looking forward to pick it up again next week.

Huh it's funny you should ask Mel. Today is the first day my ex-wife will stop receiving renumeration for the lifestyle she is accustomed to. [band] Tonight I am going out on the vessel Juicy.

Fortunately, I will not be captaining said vessel this evening.

We will be playing a drinking card game called Asshole with a bunch of random chicks I don't know. Life's good!

Anyone going out tonight please raise a glass for little me when you have a pint!

No inference of subservience nor age implied.

Merely another word for friend.

For example during a jolly game of football one fellow might call to another

"On me head son"

This would not tend to mean they are related in any way.

Ville, dude!!

How is Octavarium? So far it seemed Dream Theater was getting better and better until Scenes From A Memory, where they reached the top; then it went downhill. IMO Train Of Thoughts (last album) is one of their worst albums (along with Peruvian Skies).
@Meli: progressive metal is...complicated metal. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/idea.gif Dream Theater is very 'clean' metal, like Metallica, but then very complicated. And with actually a real singer. [mischief] Most people don't like it, because it...doesn't run properly. (Dutch: "loopt niet lekker")

Ville
10-06-2005, 19:14
It's definately much lighter than Train of Thought. Octavarium...24 minutes...It doesn't feel that long though, I don't like it as much as A Change of Seasons but I guess it takes time to get it. Sounds like it'd be from Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence... :) Haven't heard Panic Attack yet but once I get the CD, I'll tell if you haven't got it before. (Gotta love some programs... [mischief])

Octavarium isn't definately their worst album...

Octavarium is a tad boring on first listen-through. One or two songs that appeal to be re-listened to

Ville
22-06-2005, 10:06
Octavarium (the song) is slow starter but I really like it better than ACoS (the song). Maybe it's because I've heard ACoS so many times... Octavarium, The Root of All Evil, Panic Attack and These Walls are great songs. The chorus of I Walk Beside You is crap IMO.

Pastorius
22-06-2005, 10:36

I think ACoS is still one of their best songs, perhaps the best. Still I'm glad I bought Octavarius. It's certainly one of their better albums. :)

The song Octavarius is pretty good too. There is this sudden switch in tone; don't know how to say it, but you know what I mean. At first it sounded very funny, but now I'm used to it. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/undecided.gif I also thought at first that it was very good of LaBrie to sing that 'switch', but I guess if you hear it often enough it's not that hard.

Is there such a thing as Canadian politics? I've never heard anything about it. All I know there is Quebec and the rest of the country. Montreal is a cute place and speaking French there.

But overall it seems the Canadians just follow the big brother down south. As closely as they can. Both French- and English-speaking. One after the other.

barbu1977
22-06-2005, 22:39
The last 2 years have been vintage for Canadian politics.

The governement is hit by a scandal, they sponsored a great number of events in Quebec (they wanted to convince Quebecois not to leave Canada after a very close Referendum in 1995) trough publicity firms. The scandal is that the publicity firms took almost a 50% commission and the Party got a kickback from those firms.

The problem is that for the last 15 years there is no real alternatives for the Liberals. In Quebec people vote for a separatist party and the west prefers Conservatives whitch are way too mutch to the Right for the East. So Basicly the Liberals are still there but don't have majority, so it's quite fun to watch.

As the big brother down south, there as been alot of differences since W is in office. War on Irak, Anti-Missile Sheild, Mad Cow, Wood and Kyoto. We rely have the feiling that W is breaking every rule and bending every treaty and saying "What will you do?" But as you said we basicly have to follow since 80% of our exportations are going south.

As for Quebec-Canada, you have here a real separatist. Quebec will probably become a country in the next 10 years, if Canada doesn't change it's way and become more a confederation (close to switzerland). The problem, is that it looks like none understood that yet. If Quebec does become a country, one thing is sure, is that it realy will be done without any blood.

Depends on what you are looking for. I am a huge fan of Americana, the Wild West and such. Europe doesn't have too many of the kinda places where you can walk into a bar, hang out with bikers, get into a fight, beat on people for a while then get tossed out with no hard feelings anywhere.
Plus smalltown football has nothing on any sport, anywhere. Watching guys give there all, just for a chance to leave their mark, amazing.
BTW, I played my first game of real soccer yesterday night. I subbed in for my brother to give his team a bruiser. I got one penalty, and one penalty commited against, combined with 6 knockdowns that were legal. The only time I got knocked down was a blind slide tackle from the rear. I wouldn't have needed the penalty, I was just really pissed I lost my feet. I kinda pissed my team off because I didn't know the rules, but I shut down and knocked down their 2nd best striker, and still got some offense in. We lost 5-2, cause the team had no cohesion, and we were playing a Hispanic/Mexican team that had some quite good players. Soccer is more fun when they make you wear armor. In all the pickup games I plaed in, they have never ever ever let me have shinguards, now they are required. I can point to two guys that aren't walking straight due to shin/shin collisions they were in with me, and I am fine. If soccer was more violent, I could see myself playing it more often.

Exactly right. I'm not looking for Wild-West-type-of-things. They are somewhat alien to me. But I can imagine myself being brought up here in this kind of environment. However, I was raised in a different place. So, since the alternative environment does not exist in the US, that spells it for me.

Concealed weapons permit in South Dakota requires $10, a valid SD drivers license, and a 5 day felony check. The license is good for 4 years. South Dakota also has laws on nonconcealed carry, i.e. I could strap on a pistol in a holster and walk down main Street without any reprecussion, as long as I don't go in any liquor serving establisment (Felony), grocery store (gross misdemeanor) or bank (felony). School grounds and government buildings are also felonies, unless you are a peace officer, or work for the armored car company, or have a higher level permit(court issued).
Concealed weapons are allowed in bars, if the bouncer lets it. Due to the proximity to Sturgis, there are many biker bars. I routinely drive past a Bandito's hangout on the way to the in-laws. It is even more off topic, but is it bad when the Bandito's make more sense than the in-laws?

Houston is actually a very civilized place compared to LA. Crime is low and HPD is everywhere. Once can walk all night safely around the city. But nobody walks here.

Indeed, I might even say I like Houston overall except the swampy climate. The problem is not with the city or people or bars for that be. It is with the way of life. I've spent considerable time here and still cannot get used to it. It's way too different.

I believe medical and research facilities are also included as well as drug stores and pharmacies, private or government-owned. Must be a felony as well.

Actually, I never saw people with guns around here except peace officers and even many of those don't have guns as well.

Houston has the fattest people per capita in the US. They need to walk more.
LA's fucked up. Enough said.
A big advantage of living here is I don't drive anymore. I walk everywhere. Chicago is a good walking city. Safe too.

Dunno about safe, might be downtown is OK, but windy is for sure. I've been a year ago around Thanksgiving for a week. Museum is impressive and that Sears tower. Parking is horrible though.

Off topic? How can it be off topic when it is in a thread like this? I think the man himself is very satisfied with the progress of this thread.

In my short stay in the Chicago area, I was at NorthWestern for 2 months, I found Chicago to be a nice town. Unfortunately it was in the middle of a heatwave, and I was on the 6th story of a brick oven. Otherwise known as dorms sans air conditioning. I had no problem walking around in Chicago, but I got a little lost every now and again. The lake is nothing special, but the town seemed nice enough.
Some day I will try my buddies advice. Put on a good pinstripe suit, slick my hair back, and walk slowly through the dock area, see what happens.
Never been to Houston, but I have no real desire to go to North Mexico.

Surprisingly, 55% population in Harris county is black. Another 25% is caucasian and the remaining 20% is mostly Mexican. So, I'd call Western Kongo more like it than Northern Mexico.

Having a boat makes you feel a little different about the lake. I like it. The view of the city from out there is pretty cool.

Romeo you'd handle yourself just fine. Go to Mr. Beef and order a beef sangwitch. There is a way to order it though so I'd have to give you some lessons.

My grandparents had some great stories. My grandmother used to get a dozen roses on her desk every week because she was a typist for Elliott Ness' office. She typed the warrants.

Do you ride? Sturgis must be an absolute madhouse. I will be in Milwaukee for Summerfest this weekend which is Harley Central.

The reference to the pinstripe suit is to be a pretend mafia guy. Otherwise my buddies say the dock area is one place not to go to. (they are truckdrivers and such, and tell many tales of seeing guys in pinstripes walk unaccosted, while crime occurs all around them.)
I do not ride motorcycles, in fact I rather despise them. They like to think they own the road and are much tougher than I am because they ride a bike. When they get annoying, I just let the full size pick-up ease towards the centerline, and they straighten up pretty quick. I have never run inot the hardcore guys, just lots of wannabees.
Sturgis is a madhouse, the interstate routinely backs up for 10-15 miles as people try to get into town. I have no real desire to hang out with drunkards and whores. This is probably due to the fact that most of Rapid City whores itself out to the wannabe bikers. Really pisses me off. Bikini bike washes, free this, topless that, welcome bikers drop $$ here type of stuff. That and you see way too much skin, most of Houston must come up for the rally. (Obligatory fat joke) I have no problem with people if they want to live like that, but for a whole town to go out of their way, freaking ridiculus.
ARRGGHH, Sturgis pisses me off. Mostly because I can't sleep due to all the noise. Bikes and sirens dang near 24/7. Drunks everywhere, sunburned fat people way underdressed and most annoyingly, dickheads hitting on my wife. (She was fiancee last time around. I was with her, with a 0.7 carat diamond on her finger, and they still hit on her/actually catcalls mostly.)

If any of you guys are around for Sturgis, let me know. If you guys behave yourself, I do have a spare bedroom. Actually just about anytime you are headed to Rapid City, kinda odd to go there, let me know. I can show you the sights, the food etc, without you getting fleeced by the major tourist traps.
Sorry, the lets drink and be debauched until we pass out stuff gets me riled up a wee bit.

I've spent quite some time thinking about it. The main question however remains. Is it that people are fat because food is so cheap and good here or these fat people create some peculiar market with invigorated competition which drives the food prices down while demanding to maintain that highest possible quality. [confused]

But many if not all say Houston is the best place on Earth to dine and generally eat. Indeed, prices are amazingly low, portions are Texan-style generous and service always excellent. I've once studied an issue about as to whether McDonalds hamburgers are bigger here or less expensive, alas not the case. However, decent kinds of food are indeed great.

romeothemonk

Sorry Akots, that last line was directed at Rapid City during the biker rally. We don't even host it and people go all ape$hit. I also heard that Houston was the heaviest city in America before this thread. I agree that texas style cooking is very good, but it was developed for the cowpokes and farmers. When insurance adjustors etc. eat it 2-3 times a day, it don't do so good for them.

Whomp
28-06-2005, 00:37
It has nothing to do with food.
It's what you said earlier akots. People in America drive cars and watch tv. We don't walk or ride bikes. Go to Kobnhagen and everyone rides a bike. Personally, I don't get it.

There is going to be some royal trash talking going down with MarkStars PBEM. This could be really entertaining to particpate in or watch. Will Beam get totally bent out of whack with a few good natured jibes? If so, expect more jabs to be coming. I know Arghis got kind of annoyed when I played against him with my jabbering, That brings up another question, is trash talking allowed or does it generate a yellow card?

It depends on your adversary. Feel free to trash me anytime. But make sure you're getting it back. Triplesized. Or quadrupled. [lol]

There are though some people who don't like that kind of things. You can start easy in this case and see the reaction. Then, just keep on pressuring. Psychological factor is important.

But I'm really a bad person to listen to. I'm not too good dealing with human players in a multihuman games. It is a very time-consuming and too laborious for my taste. If you want to put somebody down, land a stack of units and raze the capital.

This interesting thread is stalling. Even the great spam fairy hasn't visited recently.
I spent the 4th of July weekend roofing a portion of my Grandfathers store in Wyoming. The building was constructed in 1927, and each layer of roofing was added to the previous one. The section we repaired was in the middle of of a 140 ft long building, and the dumpster was at the back. 3 buddies from my church, my brother, my uncle and myself went and did the roofing. I got to haul the old roofing away and the new roofing up, as well as the OSB to lay down on the rafter joists. Let me tell you that was fun. In one 3 day stretch I had 300 oz's of gatorade, and equal that in water, plus milk, soda and juice at meal times. I have now more roofing experience than most, and know why most people don't like it. It wasn't that bad, but good lord was it hot.

akots
06-07-2005, 01:28
Well, hot it was. A friend of mine was moving to a new house. We started at 4 pm (he could not get U-Haul earlier) at 110F 70% humidity and finished at 11 pm (around 90-93F, 75% humidity). I still don't feel well after a 2-day rest. No gatorade for me, but it was some Russian elixir (from Altai mountain herbs) mixed with water. It helped but only a tiny bit.

Where's Meli indeed? It is supposed to be his thread to spam. ;)

Well I went up to Milwaukee to visit my college mate Johnny. Another college buddy flew in from LA, another from San Fran. and a few of us from Chicago. Trouble.

Man, it was cold in Milwaukee Saturday. It was like 50F Friday night. Strange.
Anyhow, we saw The Black Crowes and Tom Petty Friday night. The Crowes were completely stoned and Petty rocked. He played a version of The Animals tune "I'm Cryin'" that was awesome.

Saturday was a perfect day and we went boating all day and partied all night. We played a drinking card game called Presidents and Assholes. Needless to say Lil' Whomp blew his brains out. Sunday we drove home early because my girlfriend literally couldn't move out of bed till today. A fun weekend all around. What happened at the CDZ reunion? That sounded like it would be fun.

Thanks.

That mean you need more posts. What is the goal of any forum? Have more posts imo! Look at such masters as Sween, Hitro, Sultan, Chieftess etc. etc. at CFC. They've achieved incredible results. They even sometimes mask themselves as moderators. But imo, moderators are just people who like to spam more than others. But I'm proud of beating the old and experienced distinguished spammer col in such a short time! And also I beat Matrix by over than 10 posts! And I'm only a handful of posts away from krys. Well, consider that posts/day number and I'm rather close. Besides I do regularly spam CFC PBEM forum with posts kinda "GPS to Amsterdam" or "GPS to whatever" or "Where is the game btw?". And also there are a few other forums apart from CFC to spam as well.

Long-term goal: having more posts at CDZ than I have at CFC. That would be a real challenge. I hope ISDG can help with that.
