Prepare to enter into a “Brave New World” Civ fans, the second expansion pack for Civilization V is in development and will be released this summer on PC and Mac. Brave New World will introduce international trade and focus on culture and diplomacy, and will include new civilizations, a Culture Victory, World Congress, international trade routes, Wonders, and new game scenarios, for hours and hours of new Civilization experiences.

Nine new civilizations are included in the expansion including Casimir III of Poland. A new culture victory can be achieved after spreading your culture across the globe, becoming the envy of the world. A World Congress will vote on critical issues like implementing trade sanctions against rogue nations, limiting resource usage, designating host cities for the World Games and the use of nuclear weapons. International trade routes aid in making your city an international trade hub, while also spreading religion, cultural influence, and science. Eight new Wonders are added including the iconic Parthenon, Broadway, the Uffizi, and more. Finally, two new game scenarios titled “War Between the States” and the epic “Scramble for Africa” let you fight the American Civil War and explore the Dark Continent.

Can't say I'm very excited. Will be on my 'maybe when it's on a serious sale' list at best. My TBS fixes for 2013: CKII & EU III/IV topped of with some Dungeons of Dredmor.

I`m reading this and I`m thinking this is just going to be another DLC-pack, unworthy of the title 'expansion'. Only extra civilizaitons, and buildable content, not really any big overhauls in game design. International trade, will that be refurbishing of the trade routes? It`s quite liberal as it is, but I can`t think of any great improvements they would make. I can only hope for interesting big changes in design, but I`m cynical. Keep my hand on the wallet probably, but anxiously awaiting more details and previews..

A reworked trade system could be a major change to the game. Most likely it's the usual Firaxis PR bullshit though. Trade routes are something that could make you very wealthy. A subgame where it would pay off to to influence where trade routes start and end, maybe even route through other cities that take a percentage... could make for a very good strategy game. Oh wait, I'm actually talking about how trade nodes will work in Europa Universalis 4.

Still, it could be an interesting mechanic, worthy of an "expansion". No other civ game has had this in the past (well, maybe something like it was in civ: call to power) or anything similar. Unlike the faith system, which is nothing more but a reskin to the current civics system. To me, G&K has been nothing more but a disappointment: a collection of pre-existing mechanics (within civ4 like espionage or even within civ5 like religion) that do nothing but make the game even easier. As it is now, the game has a very low skill ceiling in single player. It doesn't make it less amusing, but there's little appeal left for me to play single player. Multiplayer is obviously different, simply because human players aren't as predictable as the AI. I like beating the AI though, I'm not much of a multiplayer person. Bottom line: I will be playing EU4, not Brave New World.

Well, in Civ3 and Civ4, the second expansion pack was really good.

Still, I'd rather wait for a Steam sale for it...

That's what I thought. Also it tended to include most of what was in the first one, I wonder if this will. If it does i'll hold off getting the other one.

My non-constructive opinion is that that would be as dull as the original game. Overall, I still feel major disappointment and could not care less.

Everything known about pitboss in civ5 is mentioned in this thread.

And with your post, we know a little bit more.

I'd still settle for a proper PBEM. That robot thing does not seem to function and anyhow, it is a poor work around.

GMR does work, Firaxis keeps screwing it up.

So this might include pitboss...

It might or it does? You know, it is already done, they are just packaging now. I've also seen something at CFC that hints but nothing real.

The BNW info compilation thread states it as a fact. I don't believe it until I see it, and if (not when) I see it, I'll be asking why it's included in an add-on instead of a patch of vanilla civ5... or why it wasn't included at release of vanilla civ5.

Another fun fact: BNW includes the content from G&K, besides scenario's and civs. This is PTW all over again...

Probably vanilla is not compatible. Something broken in the code. Something like Civ3 vanilla had no multiplayer at all. And it cannot be patched. Let's wait and see what happens. I've been also thinking that maybe, there is a PB but it is broken and does not work. So, there are going to be patches to that. If it can be patched.

I'm almost done with Mass Effect 3 MP, just need to add a bit ultrarares to the manifest. Not a bit, actually quite a lot although the chore seems endless. It is time to try something less stressful. Running around killing bad guys is fun but it can be done in a more relaxing environment without running.

Hi guys!

I've played a bunch of Civ5/G&K this winter before classes started and when I was sick, and enjoyed it a whole lot. I knew I wouldn't have had time to get into it much or play MP. So, I refrained from kidding myself that I could tag along with you guys.

Glad to see the mood towards expansion packs hasn't changed ;) G&K fixed most issues (both technical and personal) I had with Civ5 so I'm glad I got it. Guess I'll wait for ridiculous sales for the next one down as well.

@akots: ME3 was amazing and MP was fun but soooooooooo repetitive ... how do you stick around long enough to get ultra rares?? (sorry for the spam and threadjack, I know such things are frowned upon here)

and enjoyed it a whole lot.

"Enjoyable" is how I describe civ5 single player.

OMG, not the PTW stuff again.

Don't get me wrong, if this new expansion includes pitboss that means the previous expansion is the new PTW.

It is an exceptionally deep game for a coop shooter, but you have to stick around for a bit to understand the intricacies. I don't find it repetitive at all, unless repetition means dying a lot on gold and platinum. Also, I don't have them mad skillz and would never outscore some 15-yo kid so I have to compensate with some brain effort which is amazingly entertaining.

On a side note, why are there some Heather posts in the forum view which are not accessible? Database glitching?

The posts and the user are deleted, but the database/postcount needs to be updated to show the current last post. I can't find the corresponding option in the admin panel though.

Looks interesting

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=HrpTNs7pxps

although there might be only minor changes or additions it looks like it will work out for a more complex and interesting system of mutual border mechanics culturally speaking.. when it indeed turns out to be a better game only religious influence needs to have a rework in my opinion to make it a fully enjoyable game experience..

I've put some time into G&K recently, after having spent time with CK2 and EU3. I think civ5 is an entertaining game, but G&K was a waste of money. From what I've seen of BNW only trade routes seem like an innovation (but it's the same mechanic that was in civ:ctp more than 10 years ago), but the rest... more of the same. I won't be buying this, but EU4 instead.
