View Full Version : PBEM #5 - MTDG Cage Match vs. Ginger_Ale *SPOILER*

This game began on October 15, 2006.

Finally, the duel you all have been waiting for. It is the battle between RegentMan and Ginger_Ale, two of the most feared Civ IV players.

I brought the idea up about a cage match between each other as MTDG admins, but Ginger wasn't able to operate Civ IV then. Now he is, and we've begun!

Small map, normal everything, three random AIs. Ginger is Isabella, I'm Saladin.

Turn 2

I'm heading for Buddhism. Hopefully, Ginger is too, and I finish one turn before him. [mwaha]

Turn 4 - Borders!

I'm betting Peter. Any takers?

Turn 5 - Popped the hut and got a scout, leading me to...

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good (TM).

shame that the borders will pop in the inbetweeny forcing your scout off that hill :)

I completely forgot about border expansions. Sure enough, when I opened the next turn, my scout was de-hilled.

Thank you Whomp! [hammer] I might need it when my own border expansion revealed...

Turn 9 - First religion is founded! :D

But I have also met the last AI civ (well, he met me):

Tokugawa! I think this game has it out for me. I guarantee I'll meet Ginger_Ale to the east in a few turns. He probably hasn't met anyone yet...

How can you tell that you have met Caesar from that?

purple borders=caesar :)

RegentMan
21-10-2006, 22:04
Yep, purple borders equals Rome, which equals Caesar 100% in vanilla.

Sure enough, come Turn 12, look who I stumble upon:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn012-Ginger.jpg

Unfortunately, he'll meet Peter within a turn or two, as Peter's scout has been stalking mine (even stealing a goody hut from me! :( ).

RegentMan

Turn 14 - Ginger's fiesty! He attacks my scout!

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn014-Scout.jpg

Fortunately I win that toss up. Now, to explore his lands...

Pastorius

Hehe, he learned that the hard way from me [evil]

BTW, tell him to make a spoiler here please [plz]

RegentMan

Well, he has a spoiler at CFC. I decided to out-do him and maintain one at each site. :D

Onto sadder news - Turn 15

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn015-Suicide.jpg

A lion attacked interturn, so I decided that I got my full value from that free scout and marched him to the forested hill outside of Madrid. No seeable resources! [eek]

Any preferences?

Turn 31

Ginger_Ale has a scout on the hill. Well, the same thing happened to me earlier in the game, and I wasn't about to let this opportunity slip (plus, the longer he knows less about my lands, the better):

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn031-SecondWar.jpg

And here's a view of Regentia. My cows have been pasturized! :D

RegentMan
25-11-2006, 20:31
EDIT - Ginger's a speedy player. I'll just re-update in this post, as a new save make the previous update obsolete.

Turn 45
We have since made peace (treaty expired during the interturn), and no more Ginger scouts have been seen yet. I have a settler due in one. Any thoughts?:

Robi D

City site 2 is not of much use with the romans there. I would say go with 1a to take away room from the ai's around you

RegentMan
26-11-2006, 19:30
Aye, and it gives me lots of ivory. Settler heading that way.

Turn 46

Although Peter has been busy...

Robi D

Hmmm... The spot where Moscow is looks like a good spot for one of your cities ;)

RegentMan
29-11-2006, 19:39
Indeed. I'll just have to send a settler armed with an axe or two...

RegentMan

Quote from the CFC spoiler, but I'm short on time. [:p]

I believe it's turn 50.

Bronze working is in, and I have a source of copper right outside my borders. I can't see any in Ginger's territory so far, but there's so much black (and land) over there that I doubt he lacks it.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn048-Regentia.jpg

I picked archery so I can get decent city defenders. Plus, horse archers kind of need bows.

Stonehenge = [nono] ? The early great prophet will aid my income.

RegentMan
19-12-2006, 21:15
The first wonder is mine! [^]

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn0xx-Stonehenge.jpg

And here is a Regentian view of the world:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn0xx-Global.jpg

Twenty-five turns until the great prophet!

RegentMan
31-12-2006, 17:30
Turn 65

Ginger_Ale declares war on me, to scout my lands.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/Turn065-War.jpg

A level two woodsman warrior. Yay! :(

RegentMan
24-01-2007, 18:44
Long time, no update! (Yes, a copy and paste. I have class soon :( )

Turn 82

Ginger's warrior has sped around my lands, but really causing no trouble. He has been hiding in Caesar's territory whenever he gets close to being surrounded. I've hooked up my horses to get a two-move unit. Hopefully, that'll be able to end the Scourge of Ale!

My Stonehenge build has produced my first great prophet! He was used to build:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn082-Mahabodhi.jpg

The Mahabodhi! Hopefully Buddhism will spread. Speaking of religions, Ginger_Ale has used the Oracle to grab Confucianism! Peter is Hindu, and Caesar is Jewish (Tokugawa is also Jewish). I'm not going to have many friends.

Since Ginger has at least three cities, I felt it was time to get another one or two founded. I was thinking site three, followed by site two in quick sucession:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn082-Regentia.jpg

:)

Pastorius

OHNOES! A scourge of ale

Teh horror

RegentMan

Turn 94

I am proud to report that the Third Ginger-Regentian War is now over! After Ginger's explorer unwisely ventured into Regentian territory, a Regentian archer heroically cut it down. Negotiations between the two nations occured, and peace now rules the world.

Two new cities. I decided to go south with the second one, as I lack iron elsewhere.

RegentMan
14-03-2007, 17:33
Turn 113

Nothing too exciting as of late. I founded N'est-ce Pas? this turn. Only a few more cities left to found before going to kick some arse! [hammer]

The north:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn113-NorthRegentia.jpg

The south:

Turn 116

The fourth Regentian-Spanish War has begun, with Ginger_Ale retreating right from the get go:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn116-FourthWar.jpg

I moved some units to that hill to defend it from the then threatening chariot. Ginger wanted to see the battle odds, so he nows wants peace. I figure ten turns of guaranteed peace is quite peaceful right now!

Robi D
31-03-2007, 12:54
So are you guys ever going to start a proper war [:P]

RegentMan
31-03-2007, 19:41
With due time, Robi_D. With due time. :D

RegentMan

Turn 126

A couple of interesting developments:

*Ginger_Ale is still at war with me.
*Caesar is now Buddhist (by his own will).
*Japan declared war on Caesar, so he asked me to join in on his side. I have!

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn126-WorkerCapture.jpg

Peter won't like this... [mischief]

RegentMan
11-05-2007, 04:13
Turn 142

Japan will feel the fury of the Buddhist alliance!

RegentMan

RegentMan

Turn 157

I have made peace with Tokugawa and am now focusing on two things: cottage building and development and building spearmen. My biggest fear is having the technologically advanced Ginger_Ale run rampant through my lands with conquistadors.

Northern Regentia

Turn 161

Currency is finally mine! Markets will be going up next turn.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn161-Currency.jpg

I shall have a great prophet in four turns, which will most likely become a great specialist.

Currency at 1020 AD? Is this Epic/Marathon?

RegentMan

Normal. [blush2]

RegentMan

A whole summer without an update!

1320BC

Well, really only two big things have happened. The first is that Peter has opened borders with me, so I have taken that opportunity to spread Buddhism throughout his empire, netting me some much needed gpt.

The other big thing:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/MTDGCageMatch-1320AD1.jpg

And in even more [eek] news:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/MTDGCageMatch-1320AD2.jpg

I bet Ginger is mere turns from completing it, but let the records show I beat him to it! The backward Regentians have beat the Spanish at something! Suggestions for my newfound knowledge?

And an overview:
