I borrowed a wattmeter and found out that my computer runs at an average of 70 Watt. Funny thing. A water boiler and an oven use almost 2000 Watt each! But our tv only uses 30 Watt.

So, I guess my computer is on 10 hours longer per day because of this pitboss, running at that 70 Watt with a price of €0.0951 per kWh.
30days/month * 10h/day * 0.07kW * €0.0951/kWh = €2.04/month

Start feeling guilty, guys.
I'm affraid it is not that simple.

1- That 70W is actualy heat produced in the months you would normaly heat your place, so about 6 months a year that €2.04/month has to be modulated.
2- If your place is heated by electricity, that's simple, you justs cancel it out.
3- If your place is heated buy gaz/oil, you have to see how mutch you pay by kW of heat produced, and then make the difference between that and your €0.0951/kWh.
4- If you are heated by a heat pump, you get about 5kW of heat per kW of electricity, therefore, it costs you abour €1.63/month the heat pump is used.

However, in the summer time, if you have conditioned air, you have to pay more to get that 70W out of the house, that is probably about so, you have to had a small amount there. That would be about €0,20/month on a month where the conditioned air would be working all month.

I guess, the power used by the computer depends on the temperature as well. In summetime the cooler needs more power.

Didnt notice an airco in Matrix's place so I guess only the amount for less heating needs to be deducted. Otoh, his computer is depreciating faster now it's on all the time so we should factor that in.

Our environmental conscience forbids an airco, so it's just €2.04. For the winter: we have a gas-heated house (like 99% in this country), so that's a tough one. A CH runs on power too, mind you. The depreciation is a good point: some might remember I had to buy a new videocard a few months ago.

From fr.wikipedia.com, natural gaz from Groningue has a calorific value between 9,5 et 10,5 kWh/m3

How mutch you pay per m3 is beyond me.

There's a good chance the gas we consume comes from Russia due to the government's excellent trading skills(!)

By the way, gaz ==> gas & mutch ==> much.

Well, since the temperature there is only around 20C right now, you'd be nuts to have an air conditioner running. That'd be just throwing money out the window.

Airconditioning is not very common (yet) in Dutch houses. And an average house (whatever that is) has for about 2000 hours per year the heating turned on. So of the €2,04 you can substract about €0,47 due to avoided heating. Well... is that so?!?

I'm not sure where Matrix buys his electricity, but 9 ct/kWh is about the wholesale price for baseload. Probably thus, Matrix buys his power clandestine at the gate of the power plant... a common consumer in the Netherlands rather pays about 20 ct/kWh (taxes and connection charges included). The price of gas is 60 ct/m3 with a lower heating value (thus compensating for the water content etc) of 31.65 MJ/m3 or about 8.8 kWh/m3. That makes a gas price of 6.8 ct/kWh.

Matrix claims 21 kWh/month additional electricity use, thus € 4.20 per month. Since he will be heating less for about 2000 hours/year, he saves on gas consumption. He saves about 4.8 kWh of heating per month on average, which (using the gas price) equals € 0.33 per month. Hosting the game costs Matrix per month about € 3.87.

Well, Matrix, if you tried to make any money out of this, you're doing a lousy job. You should have asked for more! Actually... the only reason that Darkness hasn't wiped your butt of the planet is that you're hosting this game. And we don't want to lose another host. So, paying € 3.87 per month for your survival might not be such a bad price for you after all, Matrix!

Glad to see you in your element, Nitro.

I haven't asked for any financial compensation, but for a sense of guilt. And since the costs are apparently €3.87/m instead of €2.04/m you ought to feel 3.87/2.04=1.90 times more guilty than at first!
