RC Heli's
So my boy has been reading up on Heli's as of late, and he's decided he wants a RC one for his birthday. Any of you have one, or have one to suggest?

Someone had one in the office the other day. I'd stick with remote control cars, they won't inflict as much damage to either furniture, windows or eyes.

There was an episode of Mythbusters i saw last week that used RC Helis for one of the myths. Apparantly they are very tricky things to control and need a lot of practise to get used to controling them.
There are beginer Helis available that are cheap (relatively) and durable so that would probably be the best place to start. Hope that helps

I found a cheap one that I've read several pretty good reviews on. http://www.trendtimes.com/tretert.html
At just under $60, I might go ahead and get two of them. It's hard to gauge whether or not they'd be hard to control or not, because every single one of them says a "10 year old will be flying in minutes!" |

They are extremely hard to control. You have to have a ton of patience to be good at them. you have to learn to hover with the nose out... then you have to learn to hover nose-in, then you can attempt forward flight. I'd recommend a product by Great Planes software that is a simulator for helis & planes. It comes with a gutted remote with electronics in it to talk to the computer. http://www.realflight.com/ I bought this instead of a RC heli and it's hard. I did a lot of research and this is one of the best simulator packages. It costs ~ $200 but if you get a nice sized RC heli it's $600 + hospital bills + damage to your neighbors house = REALLY expensive.
