Default Total War: Shogun 2

Anyone interested in Shogun2:Total War? I'm bored with civ5 and looking for a new strategy game.

I played a lot of Shogun1. Will wait for the game to come out and see what the reviews say.

I'm interested, but also note that Paradox is coming out with a similar game. I may go with the Paradox game due to my overall malaise towards Creative Assembly.

Can't say paradox has been the shining example of gaming brilliance lately. And for the 'games released with bugs award' they do give other notorious contenders a run for their money as well.

Played EU III and addons quite a bit though and I think it's a good game it's a shame however that the manuals that come with game are a huge pile of no use crap. So you're left to your own devices to figure out mechanics.

I won't buy Shogun2:TW. Havent finished RTW and addon yet. As long as that isnt done I'm not buying new TW games.

I've downloaded the demo but not played it yet. I think I'll wait for a while until the price comes down before I buy it.

Indeed, as ProPain said, Paradox has been quite lame lately. Not that they were totally brilliant in their better days... They mostly utilize their Russian branch for programming (1C company) which made a few reasonable titles but a host of very mediocre games.

I've also played a lot of Rome TW and liked it a lot. It is complex and very well balanced. Cannot say the same about Medieval TW. Have it, tried it and did not like it at all for some reason, mosly I guess poor strategic map design and too predictable battles. However, Napoleon TW was a very solid game IMO, very enjoyable. I played through the main campaign as France, Austria, England, and Russia and it was completely different experience in each case which was an unexpected pleasantry.

I played the demo, it's actually pretty good. And it looks amazing. Not just quality graphics, but stylish as well.

I'm close halfway my first campaign now. So far I'm having a lot of fun. Compared to previous TW titles you have to make harder choices. For instance, there's less space available in cities to build buildings, so you have to choose between a temple and a barracks. In turn this means it's harder to create a large army. You can also build only a single monk per temple, so you have less specialists as well. With less units you connect more to the units you have, and that suits my playing style.

I haven't encountered any strange bugs in combat yet. Pathfinding is still poor, so units need a lot of micro. Formations should make this easier, but I haven't figured these out completely. In theory it should make combat easier, but it just doesn't work how I think it works. What doesn't help is that instead of having a clear description the formations have names like Shitting Hamster.

Now I'm tempted to buy it, but I'll be strong and not add a game to my ever growing list of games. Maybe I have to burn my credit card......

ROFL, would be cool if you could make your own formations with custom names.

Just try the demo, it's reasonably extensive. But I must say I like R:TW for the large number of different units. There aren't quirky ones like wardogs or burning pigs is Shogun 2.

A good custom name would be "use this, not the other ones you idiot". The japanese culture is full of symbology, but unfortunately it doesn't make any sense to me. Perhaps the Swooping Crane is the symbol for "use this and get covered in shit, you idiot".
