What is hamachi for? Why do we need a VPN to run pitboss?

I would say its like an instant messenger that gives you a new ip address on the vpn. Not a bad deal, you just load the thing up before you play. If you try to log in without it running CIV wont connect.

We need the VPN to run pitboss if we want to play a game. It basically bypasses my router so I don't have to mess with the firewall and/or ports. It creates an IP address for me that you guys connect to my PC through. That's the plain and simple of it. Basically, if I could explain it more than that then we wouldn't have to use it cause I'd probably be able to work with my router in the first place.

So if we shell out of Civ to desktop then this program is still active. I am not opposed to the program just want to know more about it. And how to make sure I am not letting a hole in my firewall protection.

Well, like KC said, it's kind of like a messenger. But just through my computer. You can go online and offline. I just run it while in game.

i only turn it on for like 5 minutes a day anyways.

seeing as the only people able to connect to it will be from cdz you've got little to worry about. (or do you? )

Speak for yourself. Now I can hack Rob's computer and prove my theory that he is Ben's spy from the freighter off the island. "Research" cruises, pfffft.
