According to HTYC It should take 17-18 matches to train up his PM which will leave me just enough to train up his wing from passable to solid.. I just need to make sure to not screw up any training between now and then :P

Woot!

I guess, at some point you should contact a scout for the U20. At least here in Germany, we have Scouts that care about 16yo. That guy is great! (He will earn you enough money that you really should focus on him to make sure he gets the best, other players that get sold are only a bonus)

OK, even better would be if he is quick. But Head is also not bad at all.

This guy was only 4.5 stars when I placed him at CD for the friendly this week so I do not think I need to worry about having to choose between what skills to train.

I have time to get the U20 people involved if needed. AFAICT the U20 is all about the age they turn 20.

Normally the decision whether a player will be nominated for U20 will be done long before he actually plays. And that might mean that the scouts search the right coach for him and make sure that he receives the correct training.

I actually joined a USA Dedicated Trainers Fed that posts players out to people who have excellent coaches and willing to train youth for U20.. interesting but I have not decided if I will try to train this kid myself or not. It would likely ruin his U20 chances as I will not have an excellent coach but having homegrown players is going to become more useful

I think that in some cases it might still be better to choose for selling a guy. For example: last season I sold a U20 potential for 10M. Suppose you'd get 2M for him (sounds very reasonable to me for a U20 prospect). Then this by far exceeds the benefit you'd get by training him yourself for your own team.

I'd contact a "U17" scout.

I sent the stats to the U17 scout and asked if he would be a U20 prospect.

He replied:

Probably not as his age isn't perfect. However, he has the skills and spec if he maxes out!
Train PM/passing an winger/wing attacks in the friendly. Keep me updated! That's a gold mine.
