Hmm, I could use a trick engineering a transport (galley or so) with only one boarding space. AI will never send out a lone setler so no cross-island setling, but it will send mili on it, and thus make contacts.
I am very surprised still though...I made the map so that curraghs could roam free everywhere, most certainly for the seafaring ones. Not making contact is a stupid thing for the AI to do.
