Seems AZ isn't showing any ill effects from the coaching change. Van Gaal's doing a good job so far, and Arveladze is proving to be an upgrade at striker, so far.
It might just be another interesting year in Alkmaar.

You know, with this new 'top nacompetitie', where the top six teams have to play another small competition to decide who's to play in Europe next year, I actually don't care anymore about who's going to win any of those competitions. I only care about FC Groningen, since they won't be bothered by it. But our competition is rather fucked up.

Play offs aren't that weird, it's just different. The major downside is that it leads to more matches, where less matches should be preferrable (especially in a WC year). Just look at the play off as just another preliminary round.
AZ looks good indeed. Where both ajax and psv appear to be severely weakened, there ought to be chances for AZ (and Feyenoord).

"Different"? They're evil! Just a way for the KNVB and Versatel to get more . But who cares about becoming competition winner? It's the play-off that matters. Or not? Is Europe just a spin-off and do you want to become champion? You see, by adding that play-off you actually kill the whole point of competition. Both things only matter half. And that's lame.

Obviously you want to become champion, and as a side effect you're assured of a CL spot. Who cares about the play off?

Then I don't know everything. What are the stakes at the play offs? I thought that was about who plays Champions League and who plays UEFA cup.

The play offs are for the teams placed 2nd through 8th or something like that. So it's not actually the top 6, but the top 7 minus the champion.

Doesn't look like a promising start of the European season for dutch clubs...
P.S. Wow, first post in OT in two days!
