It appears to be in the wrong subforum, but there's some info in the first link in this thread.

cane:

You can produce goods (I guess you'll find out where to produce what), some of them need basic input.

For 200 food stored you get a new colonist.

I think settling is done via B as always. There's no fat cross, you can only work the 8 tiles around your colony.

There are two special things produced:
-Crosses: If you get a certain number of crosses, a new colonist appears in Europe who migrates for religious reasons to you.

-Liberty bells: You get a founding father when having enough of them. And the people in your colonies want to be independent afterwards. With 50% rebels, you get a bonus. And it is important in the final war.

You can zoom in 3 or 4 times with "z"

Settling: "b"

Colonization FAQ's:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/dos...me/562685.html

I don't know if they're any good, but it's probably better than having no information at all.
I've briefly skimmed through the first (top) one and it's fairly decent. The only thing I vehemently disagree with is this part:

Quote:
quote:The others vary in usefulness, depending on how you handle the natives
and trade relations. Simon Bolivar and John Paul Jones are useful to
gain prior to declaring independence, and William Brewster is
particularly useful if your cross production is quite high. Peter
Stuyvesant is useful in that he alleviates your workload; however,
being able to keep a trickle of gold flowing during the revolution
is meagre consideration for selecting PS. Don't pick Thomas Paine
until later in the game, as you must give time for your tax rate
to increase.

[cox: There seem to be as many different opinions about which make the
best founding fathers as there are people making postings. Evidently
this part of the game was equalized pretty well. My personal favorite
founding fathers for each stage of the game (in order of preference)
are:

Early:

1. Thomas Jefferson -- Since he increases liberty bell production
by 50%, he packs a double whammy: Not only will he allow your
colonies to get production bonuses faster, but your next founding
father will join sooner.

2. Peter Minuit: Unless you're Spanish, then get Cortes, and simply
wipe out the nearest indian villages.

3. Benjamin Franklin: Although your enemies will still
sneak-attack you, you can wait to fully deal with them until YOU are
ready.

4. William Penn: A 50% increase in cross production can mean a
greatly increased flow of immigrants over the course of the game.
Remember that criminals can make excellent missionaries, and
indentured servants can easily be trained by indian villages.
A: Benjamin Franklin isn't that useful at the start at medium levels as the other European powers leave you mostly alone until after 1600 AD

B: THE Founding Father to get at the start: Hernando de Soto. He makes all those lost city rumors (goody huts) really worth the effort, because he increases the chance of success.

In my current game I got Hernando de Soto as the first Founding Father and I popped 4 Fountains of Youth and 8 of the "Seven cities of Cibola"...
Needless to say my Colonization skills are fairly rusty so this game is at the third level (conquistador?) and I still managed to mess up some things in the later stages of the game (it also doesn't help that none of the Indian villages can teach me Tobacco Planting (usually the rarest of the traits you can learn from Indian villages (in my games anyway)).

True. The game is not very stable. I've had one crash so far (I'm at 1620 AD now).

There's a nice review on Eurogamer. Usually Eurogamer is reasonably neutral (compared to the likes of IGN/gamespy), and they seem very positive. It looks like Firaxis has put the civ4 combat system into col2. Not a bad thing, considering that the original combat system is like that of civ1...

Two things that are bothering me:

- no mention of the improved AI/diplomacy; so that was a useless marketing claim?
-what's Oshemonpa (the top city) building?

It says "expert silver miner". I hope that it's an indian village training one of your colonists, and not that it's a colony building an expert. That'd be very much against the idea of colonization...
