Hm, in such a case you should win, since the King was unable to reclaim his colony. After all, you remain independent.

I'll check again tonight, but I'm fairly sure I got a message that the King had won.....

I dont think its an exploit....its rather realistic of what happens in war.
Well, this happens way way before there actually is a war. But anyway, it seems to be a rather louzy "feature" if you can hide military power by simply not attaching guns and horses to your soldiers. Histroically correct or not.
Actually, since building soldiers is as much about numbers of colonists as about producing guns and horses, soldiers could be used better for food production anyway, before they get to the garrison, equipped with guns&horses.

I'm puzzled too Beam! Appearently, you succesfully hided your military power from the King.

This brings me to another question: What does trigger the King to increase the REF? Denying money requests? Your power? Percentage of peopel that want independence?

Earlier I explained the King had such a big REF, he didn't even manage to get his troops accross in 110 turns and tus won.......
I kept some saves to show what happened.

1749: Just before assigning the Elder Statesmen. Three in each city, only 2 visible Military units and all guns and horses hidden away on wagon trains and ships. The REF is at the same size as tbe start but started to grow immed. hereafter.

89.33KB

1774: In just 25 turns ready to revolt. The REF has grown but not to the size I've seem in many other threads. Still all is hidden.

91.99KB

And here about the numbers of hidden stuff. Horses (12) means 1200 Horsies btw. About 600 guns are hidden elsewhere. A nice twist is to choose +2 population at revolt. The resulting crap units are excellent as Dragoons.

51.37KB

Victory came in 1786, took so long because the king had to sail back and pick up his last remaining troops.

So, increasing of the REF is triggered by bells and guns. And by avoiding to collect bells and guns, one can seriously fool the AI.....

I'll check what happens if one does not build up a force, but does use statesmen!

If you build up bells and units you get messages that the ref is expanded because of that.

I'm playing my third game now and had to expand borders in a small city. During the process the King added 2 units. If you can delay border expansion better wait til the city is sizy four or five cause it will have less impact in the independence ratio.

I've not finished one game yet, and with no experience with the original, am still quite clueless about what all is going on. How to stop rising REF? Liberty bells? People in buildings? I'll figure all this out and more in a couple weeks
