I'll try today again when I get home. I guess the issues I'm having are vista-specific and can be actually resolved according to hamachi forum.

Ok, I tested and everything seems to be working fine even though I have now two permanent networks on the computer even if I turn the hamachi off. I can though to enable and disable it at will via network and sharing center in vista, not that bad after all.
