Will you buy Vista ?
By now, some of you may have read a few things about Microsoft's new OS, which is about to be sold around the world to the public. Here is a poll whose question is simple :
Will you <s>shoot yourself in the foot</s> buy Vista anytime soon ? Please explain your reasons in either case. Just answer YES if you plan to buy it in 2007. I could have listed many options, but in the end it will be easier to just have YES and NO. Me votes NO. My PC can't handle it at all (don't plan any hardware upgrade). It is too expensive (especially in Europe). It is a piece of crappy software, years behind other OSes (ex : GNU/Linux). It is not a free software. It is not as much of an improvement as it was first thought (but we'll still pay the same). It is against freedom and personal control over your hardware and software and data, and rather gives away this control to Microsoft. It smells.

I miss the "Over my dead body" option.

not until I buy a new PC, and that should not be for at least 2 years.

I think this is what those in the politics profession call a 'push poll'.
Anyway, no. XP is doing fine for me, I have no desire to give a corporation veto power over my PC, and this will be adequate push for me to spool up Linux again and finally get familiar with it.

I need to update my PC, probably in April/May when the new DX10 cards come out (the reasonably priced ones). At that point, I'll need a new OS as well (this 'puter will become a media center/network storage unit) so I'll probably buy Vista.

I don't see a reason to upgrade. I'll only upgrade if I'm forced because of incompatibility with new computer games. Battlefield2 was the reason I upgraded from win2k to winxp a year and a half ago.

My video card died and my onboard videochip can't handle Civ4, Google Earth. Luckily it can handle Civ3. I'll be needing a new PC somewhere in May - June 2007 when Memory-cost will go down, and just before Spore.
If I succeed in taking my work-PC with me when I get fired I'll just buy a video-card and memory and buy (or "get") Vista.
