No, they just realized that "total football" just doesn't work anymore in the modern game...

Maybe they were playing their football codes mixed up and were playing "total rugby".

And i would say total football isn't for the modern game, Spain did pretty good afterall

The way Spain plays, while undoubtavly very technical and good-looking, isn't even remotely related to "total football".

Spain plays with a single striker, overloading the midfield with 5 players playing closely together, and a right-back streaking along the sideline. Looks good and is effective, but it's not "total football" .

I know I am kind of late, but I was away for a few days...

Random thoughts:

- Although Spain didn't have a single game where you could be totally excited about their match, they deserved the title. For me, the NL didn't deserve it, which has to do with their behaviour in the final.

- I totally don't understand how some players of the Elftal complain about the referee after the match. Surely one can discuss about some decisions (and yes it was a corner like 2 minutes before the goal...), but in total, I think the wrong decisions pro NL outweighed the wrong decisions pro-Spain. Especially as the NL shouldn't have seen the kick off to the 2nd half with 11 players...

-Spain could have gotten it easier if they at some points just kicked the ball instead of trying to go for another dribbling

-Netherlands managed with their aggressive play to keep Spain away from the goal at the end of first half, but as they had to be careful afterwards, Spain had as many big opportunities against NL in the 90 minutes as they had against Germany, who tried without fouls. So, it should probably be in between the two to beat Spain.

-South Africa was a great host, from what I can see from here. Doesn't surprise as I've already been there and was sure about them getting the main things right (and there were problems in detail 4 years ago as well)

- FIFA sucks. Let's have a World Cup without FIFA.
