Default KoD5 ***SPOILERS***

So, I finished it, somewhere 250 AD, I think, but could have been faster. To sum it all up:

Whipped settlers like crazy on the second continent to settle all the way to the wheat below the istmus. No problems with happiness with all the luxs and the food surplus made sure I could use plenty of specialists for research. Started building courthouses relatively late so I never really produced anything here. Portugal declared war somewhere around 2000BC (IIRC), which lasted all the way to the end, since I wanted a leader for my FP on this continent, but no luck with my horsemen army upgraded from whipped chariots. JC turned out to be a great defender though on the isthmus .

On the homeland 2nd city The Hague, along the river to south, was my 4 turn settler factory and I managed to settle all the way to the banana's. I built quite a few warriors, but when I got IW (quite late), it turned out no iron . I also spotted the horses quite late, so I had built an archer army to take on Germany, but when I did, I switched total production to horsies. The war was not easy against a lot of German archers but a first leader gave me a horse army (with KR in it ), which helped a lot to finally get to Berlin. When I took Berlin somewhere in 100 AD or so the prebuild for GL was just ready, but it was on the west coast, so it took some more turns to get to the oasis isle.

In retro, I think I might have waited a bit too long with the right approach to take Berlin. I also expected to have to conquer the oasis tile from Portugal or even worse, Scandinavia or England, because now the other island didn't have any real use in the game (only a lot of luxes in the last few turns). After having won the Philo gambit (I even did CoL before, but still chose Monarchy iso Rep and switched soon after) I was always ahead in the tech race. Interesting detail, most of the other civs were warring for big periods of time (Portgual <-> Vikings (I allied with Ragnar), Rome <-> Carthage <-> Spain. This kept them far behind. On GL-fishing: 2nd for Herioc Epic, third GL for FP near the banana's and 4th for another army (but didn't need it anymore.)

Also finished it, somewhere around 290AD. Before a brief description of the game: the war vs the Germans was such a disaster I decided to quit at that point and reload a pre-war sav . So the year of finish counts for nothing basically, just wanted to reward KR's efforts by making Wooden Shoes.

The inital idea of the German war was to take Berlin, Frankfurt (with a Harbor) and Nuremburg in the first turn and immed. start building GL. Although each city was attacked with more than double the number of defenders none of the Horse stacks managed to make it thru and a lot of units were lost and a lot of red-lined units in each of the three German cities.

After the reload I decided to send the whole Horsie stack to Berlin, conquer it and try to hold it until peace. Which was successfull. (The attack was not in the same turn as the first one so different RNG).

As in Plux' game the Portugese attacked me as well, the whipped Swordie stack on the isthmus mountains was strong enough to hold position until the peace treaty.

Agree with Plux that the approach to Berlin is the key-part in this game. Building up sufficient troops needs a lot of time. Would have been even more of a challenge if that Oasis had been in enemy terrain and the Mausoleum of Wooden Shoes a mid MA wonder. Still enjoyed it a lot and looking forward for KoD6!

Thanx for the feedback guys! That, honestly, is very much apreciated!

As for the Oasis, you are right, but my intention with koD was and is to keep some playability in it timewise. Putting the Oasis on Roman lands would be more challenging, but would also require more time, and eventually you would certainly beat them. Considdering that beating bismarck one-on-one, should also mean that allying the world vs. the Romans (and you being the solo naval power) would be just a walk in the park.
What was intended and did not work that well, was the technological coorperation between the AI. I made them nicer to eachother (culturegroup/pref govts) to make it harder for the human to keep up. I am looking for other options.

As a final note, I could easily implement 2 Classes for KoD. One a bit easier for a braoder number of players, and one beefed up a bit, for the Die-hards. Would this be preferable or would a split-up make it less attractive?

So far, I think it's fine as is. We don't have that many players over here and in otherwise there would be even less players to compare to.

Also think it is fine as it is!

On the techs, I experienced the same as Plux, only Portugal was slightly ahead of me.

Well, that's because my AI's barely made cross continent contact with each other, despite being seafaring. Only Germany and Rome got in to contact because Rome's borders touched the German coastline.

Hmm, I could use a trick engineering a transport (galley or so) with only one boarding space. AI will never send out a lone setler so no cross-island setling, but it will send mili on it, and thus make contacts.
I am very surprised still though...I made the map so that curraghs could roam free everywhere, most certainly for the seafaring ones. Not making contact is a stupid thing for the AI to do.
