By manual you mean the 'you're in quarantine untill an admin approves you' regsitration?
That's been called off ever since we got email messaging back up on the new server and personally I wouldn't wanna go back to that. Takes too long for people to complete sign up.

But then again, most new signups are spambots anyway. Perhaps it's worth checking out if a newer vB version has better spambot protection?

Quick look up. Since the 1st of June 2012 we had 4 new sign ups, alle were spammers/spam bots.
What do we learn: - we don't attract a lot of new memembers (c) - we don't attract a lot of spammers either. As far as I am concerned 4 spammers in 5 months is manageable. Although reinstalling the manual check will work even better: without any normal sign ups we're not really disappointing any normal people with a frustrating long sign up time and we keep all spammers out
