The Front Page Thread

The subject came up in the moderator forum, but I thought it might be useful to include (that other three

members in this discussion as well. I'm more or less happy with the forum as it is now, but I think a way of displaying our (lack of) content would encourage people to sign up. Plus some threads deserve some time in the sun. A downside of having no proper front page is that we won't come up in google searches as much as we'd want to.

So, suggestions anyone?

Good idea to have the Front Page return.

Without to much ambition on periodic updates we could have:
- A general section with our philosophy (ahum) about gameplay, spam, civ, other games, other other games and other other other games
- A history section
- A section about signing up
- A specific spam-of the-week section

- A section with links to what should be attractive for ppl to join (PBEM and MP, Hattrick)
- A dynamic section who's birthdays are this month.
- More?

IMO, just some short text with links to specific fora (General discussion, Hattrick, Pitboss/PBEM games) will be OK since it does not need to get updated. I'm not sure putting emphasis on spam is attractive since spam arenas are quite abundant all over the internet with language-specific variations.

But, TBH, I don't think that any site can have that number of PBEM/PB games that were actually finished per capita of members. Folks at CFR are starting 5th PB game and none of these played out in the end. Must admit I tried to host one myself but after some guy started to pause the game every turn for 10-12 hours claiming that he needs some time to think and that it must be turn-based while it were simultaneous moves from the start, made me abandon the idea. Besides, my second PC shut itslef down and never restarted. I guess everyone recognizes the old rant of me versus the ladder guys. Look at ISDG as well. Fuck it as well. Yes, fuck the ladder since there is an alternative. That is the strong point to be emphasized IMO. Sorry for the rant, hopefully you don't mind.

There's an 'unofficial' front page add-on for Vbulletin. This add allows you to display certain posts/threads on the first page. That would be ideal for us as it doesnt require a lot of extra work to fill the page that way.
