I think that was a good choice, considering the opposition
You cant have your settler delay settling when there are crazy german celts, with concentration problems (see my sig), that can come with a gang of warriors and whatnot and destroy your delayed empire (hope that made sense)

The map looks quite strange with a massive corridor of land above where I started so it will be interesting to see whether we are all actually linked together or not.
I've regretted settling on the original tile a bit as I've just been struck by disease which takes my capital down to a size one city and really slows down getting that first settler. I do have lots of warriors though :\ |
