thanks for the advise ynnek... I honestly don't know what I'm doing and make decisions as they come up in civ4 instead of anticipating situations, which I know is bad juju if you intend on winning the game

The entire game is random so I didn't have a choice.

warrior back to the SW for exploration or go explore the tundra in the north?

I sent my scouting warrior to the SE and met up with Simon's scout. I declared war and killed him.

REserach front... I'm 1 or 2 away from BW. what should I go for next? I'm thinking AH... but archery might be nice too.

I actually started the wheel. But I also revolted to slavery. So no research lost except the overflow. So if someone could throw me a bone here,....

It looks like the area to the south is a little secluded. Also there is copper just south on the south-western corner of the lake to my south. So that might be my first city.

my capital is pop 2, the 2 AI have a pop 3capital and Simon has a pop 4. I honestly don't know how he gets high pop at the beginning of games. Granted that I'm working on a worker currently. So that has impeded me, but in another game, he had his capital up to pop 5 while the rest (all humans) only had pop3. He might suck in Hattrick, but he excels at reporducing

Simon likes running a specialist economy so he stresses food production. You will rarely see him build cottages.

One suggestion....since you will most likely not be trading those spices...consider either cottages or farming one or 2 of them instead of waiting to plantations. I fyou post some clearer screen shots we could give advice on cities. BUT if the copper city you mention is immediately next to your capital...( fat crosses touch or overlap) then its a good site. just make sure it has enough food to work the copper and also make sure the copper is in the working tiles from the moment you settle. Its worth having a few tiles overlap if you get to use the copper without a border expansion.

Does Simon know where you are at or did you kill his scout far away form your area? Build an extra garrison and make sure you protect your workers/settlers. If he knows where you are at. (That lesson I think you learned in our game 2vs2 baldies)

you would think that I learned it, but I've lost two cities and a worker

I don't think that he saw my borders although he was mighty close to viewing them.... So he might think that I'm further away. I'll attempt to get a full screenshot up tonite

ok.. a little update. Simon is ahead by around 120 points. cyrus is getting big. I'm going for alpha (still on writing now) to trade with the 2 AI. I hope that I can get there before anyone else does. I settled the horses that showed up in the NE on the grassland by the tundra. I have another settler going to settle 1 W of the wheat in the north. My borders expanded to get the copper which had a worker there to promptly start mining. I'll see if I can remember to take a picture or two next time I'm in the game

I'm a bit surprised Simons so far ahead on points given your popped techs.

As far your traits goes, they are more useful then most people give them credit. I had FDR in a pbem against Robboo a while back. Being Industrious on a small map means you can sneak a wonder in where you otherwise wouldn't. Pyramids is a good one to try to get, and organised is great because you can expand further and faster then the other without worrying about maintenance so don't be scared to plant a couple more cities
