Default Poker?

With poker being more popular as ever I was wondering if anybody here is playing? It's a strategy game that can make (or lose) you money after all.

I've played a handfull of times with friends, but never went pass that.

One of my buddy's brother actualy plays 40 hours a week over the internet and has made over 100k each of the last 3 years. He has even made sure his thing was legal as he hired an accountant and pays taxes over his earnings.

Althogh I surely could do the maths part to be a good poker player, the new hype was completely without me. I don't even know the rules of Texas Hold'em exactly. Somehow I am thinking: I don't have the time to become a really good Civ IV player, so I am not sarting on something else...Hatrick is the only other game I regularly use ( at least I am quite satisfied in what I achieved there )

That is one of the many ways to make a living or so it seems. 40 hours a week is a full time job. No wonder it pays well.

I don't like poker. I don't like gambling either.

I playing it fairly regularly once or twice i week. They have a pub league here that i play. Get $100 if you win which i've done a few times, plus if you finish in the top of a venue you qualify for a final. Last time i made it and finished 17th and got $175.

I do enjoy the strategy involved and trying to read people and all that goes along with it. But i'm not a big gambler so i haven't gone to the casino or anything like that, i like to keep my money with me

So nobody is playing online? I've been playing a bit myself for fun and I must say I like the maths & strat side about it.

I used to play a lot online. The problem is that you have to play on the reasonably higher stakes to avoid the multitude of retards that play on the smaller stakes. I made quite a bit of money but then starting blackjack bagging so kind of had other more profitable things to do with my time. Since i finished that i've not really got back into Poker but might this summer depending on how i feel.

It just not as much fun for me online as you can't see the people and as BCLG noted the high amount of retards which make the game feel more like bingo

I tend to consider those 2 things as upsides. People don't see me either so my lack of a pokerface isn't a problem. And I love the retards as they tend to make mistakes. Now mind you I play microstakes so it's just fun, I can imagine this gets more anoying with serious money. Especially when taking a bad beat.
