Default Quick vacation to Munich and Strasbourg

What is to not miss?

What are tourist traps we should avoid?

Any warnings?

I worked in Strassbourg thru '96 and '97 and made some visits after that. It really is a very nice city. Where to go and what to see depends on your liking of course, I can recommend doing a boat trip through the canals and a visit to the cathedral. If you like cheese La Cloche au Fromage is very good.

Although Strassbourg isn't a real tourist trap many germans visit it during the weekend so it can be a little crowded.

Have fun!

We like to visit historic landmarks, Castle and Cathedrals, we may go to the Deutche Museum (the science museum)in Munich, but I'm afraid it may too mutch for children. (anybody went?)

We do not plan to go to any art museum.

We also like to go see the local crowd away from normal tourist path. We already have tickets to the Stuttgart- Hanover football game.

Deutsches Museum is very littel for children,a ctually Do go!

I can recommend the Schwäbische Alb - if the weather is nice you should go (I offer myself as tour guide) to Hohenneuffen Castle to see the sunset. Dramatic. Again, this could be done by 'wasting# one day between the two towns.

In Munich, go to the Biergarten in the Englischer Garten (English Park). You may bring food, but must buy drinks there. If you go in the mroning, before 11 o'clock, get Weißwürste (white sausage, served with sweet mustard). After 11 they are not sold. Later in the day, people eat Wurstsalat (sausage and chese and onions cut up and served with vinaigrette) or a Saubraten (roast pig). Or Steckerlfisch (macerels smoked on a stick, thus the name - very fishy!).

Also, wander around the park!

Go see Nymphenburg Palace and Garden - they, btw, house also a very nice and interesting musem 'Mensch und natur' (mankind and nature).

Been to Munich a few times, and was able to take the wife and our oldest once. if your kids are into trains, cars, airplanes, the Deutche Museum is perfect. they have a very elaborate model train setup that my 4yr old (i think he was 2 or 3 at the time) could spend all day watching Englischer Garten is also very cool, and is located in a nice park. Wurstsalat is very good! not too far away from the Old Palace, iirc, which is interesting to walk thru.

i only speak english and got thru the Deutche Museum just fine in fact, it's not too hard to get around the entire city thanks to the subway (ubahn). not sure if they have English maps, though (museum has them, but the city? maybe best to buy while in Canada).

now that i'm thinking about it, i remember they did an electricity display there that was really cool. scared my little one shitless so we had to leave early

they sell roadmap and city maps in english all voer the place, e.g. at the station new vendor, or news vendors in little stalls on the street.

the U-Bahn and S-Bahn plans (first has stops relatively close together, second covers larger distances) are also available in english at the larger stations.

the Farrady cage thing is indeed great
