AKots..thought about it but we are anchored here with my wifes job. Higher ed just took a massive cut here close to 350 million. No hiring, no raises and student worker money is slashed to essentially nothing if its not supported by grants. My plan was to get my PhD. BUt life threw some curve balls. My wife(PhD) got a good job too quickly after a 6 month post doc. Where we moved to did not have a PhD program within 3 hour drive. Then kids happened, then we moved here. Starting thinking about PhD...then my job got cut at LSU. Got a job with the state and thats where I am now.

BUT now you may have given me another option...go back to school on an assistantship as a "job". Hmmmm.....thanks I think. I need to make a few calls/emails tomorrow.

Mauer....I will let you know if its nasty.

You are certainly an adventurous eater, I've heard the trend is quite popular in LA. I'd prefer to stick with buttered pecan at all times.

That will probably be on the low side of the paycheck but very secure and you can do something else part time. It might be more hours then but may be better on the bank account. However, i thought BRouge has a nice university? Edited: It has Environmental graduate program?

Bees are nice, everybody loves honey. You probably can get some nice stuff from your wife's job for free there.

I have to say that attitude is especially true for fresh masters in the city of Groningen, and not so much for this part of the country. It's quite different in the US as well, as our unemployment benefits are a lot higher. Nevertheless, "will work for food" is an attitude that is applaudable

LSU is in Baton Rouge. Has a good Wetlands program, and a good Oceanography program
Every aspect of biology that I am interested has a PhD program. Preemptive today I will look at GRE and entrance deadlines.( so I know at what point it is too late)

As far as the ice cream...I like amerato/almond flavor, so the smell made me have to try it. I am sort of an adventerous eater but thats for another thread..

I'd say it's a mental strain to live from reorganisation to reorganisation. Be careful it doesn't break you.

The company I work for is still making boatloads of profit. Thank god (or the rather the EU, as I'm atheist) for strict environmental laws! But otherwise I'm still confident I'm not the first one they'd kick out.
