So, anyone wants to talk about ajax now? What a wankers. At least this paves the way for Ten Cate to go to Chelsea, and for ajax to hire Van Basten. Haha.
A pity Groningen got kicked out, they did pretty OK. Let's not talk about Hoerenveen. All in all, a disastrous day for the dutch UEFA ranking. On the other hand, with the new plans we wouldn't get another CL spot (and won't loose one anyway), so we only loose some UEFA cup places. If only the top 4 clubs would play European football, that's fine by me. Then our football nation looks better on tv.

I watched the extra time of Fiorentina - FC Groningen on TV Noord. The commentary was ridiculously bad and biased! But FC Groningen did play nice, although I think the fact that they made it to the penalties is mostly on account of Fiorentina's disappointing performance.

Yes, it was a lovely evening for Dutch football...
Ajax, Heerenveen, Twente and Groningen lost. At least Groningen put up a decent fight and got as far as a penalty shoot-out. Only AZ advanced.

A hattrick by Alves! (A real one: all in the same half and no other goals in between.)
And Ajax only takes away one point out of Rotterdam (Sparta)! They were even behind for a long time in the match. Groningen behind, so far. Go go Grunningers! Kop d'r veur!

OMG!! Heerenveen - Heracles 9-0. Alves scored 7 times in a row!!
The hattrick I mentioned wasn't even half of it.

I don't get it. Today was the first time in ages that I've seen the Dutch team perform really well.

That's depending on what your definition of performing is. Generally speaking I'd say that it means a team gets multiple scoring opportunities, not "two". It might look pleasing if you can pass, but it doesn't mean anything unless it's a pass to or in the forward line.

They did have a couple of opportunities in the first half. What I did notice is that they didn't properly anticipated on the strong wind. When the wind is against you, it's best to play the ball directly to the striker, because it will drop dead before him. When the wind is in your back, it's best to either use wings or shoot directly. But in the second half the Dutch team again played through the centre, and that just didn't work, because all the passed balls went over the striker(s) past the goal line.

Wow, is it just me or is AZ really collapsing like a house of cards this year?
