passing would help if I plan on counter attacking correct? I doubt I'll ever use this tactic though.
I'll take your advice and get a defender tonight if they're cheap enough. Thanks.

Tubby, your GK training will give you a rock solid defense in no time. And with that defense, you could play counter very, very well...

Ok then let me see if this is right... for CA I need
1) powerful players (x2 on CA chance) 2) passing skills for defenders 3) weak midfield 4) good scorers up front Is that right?

I'm not the counter specialist, that'd be kingreno, but that'd probably be correct. Don't bother too much about it now though, socralynneks advice is probably solid.

yeak midfield is not true, you only need a worse midfield than your opponent.
It's good to get a few chances from posession yourself. Oh, and the most important one you forgot: You need a good defense!

I can't recall needing powerful players for CA, they count their defense twice for your pressing rating if you play pressing, but I don't think they help your CA rating, or the chance to get a CA, in any way...

I began to seriously understand CA after about 2 seasons. To make it lucrative you need to place everyone in the right places or it will simply not work. My first season of real CA saw a magical escape from relegation...

if your playing 4-3-3
with the mid wingers offensive and 2 of the forwards towards the wing, is it then wise (as i have been doing) to attack on the wings?

No!
Why are you playing 4-3-3 in the first place? You need to gain midfield, so you need to play all the inner mids you can (count 'em, that's 3). If you'd be playing 3-4-3, then you play with 1 winger. You could play this towards middle, to strengthen your midfield further. Or, you could play with an offensive winger, but only if you're much stronger in the midfield to begin with, or if you're facing very tough central defense. You can play 1 forward towards wing, I do that all the time (even with a winger towards middle). But only do this if you have a forward with at least inadequate winger (it has not much adverse effect on your central attack if they have passable winger). BTW, AOW or AIM is only of any use if your team has a reasonable amount of passing.
