large? though i suppose the number we have right now could be supported by a standard sized map

Large would be good, standard would be better, but as long as everyone understands about the possibility of pitboss slowdowns next year when we get around to the late-game, I'm cool with whatever the majority wants.

We should first have the number of players and then decide on a map size. It should not be too large.

Preferably not too small! Since it's a Pitboss game, you will have all the time in the world to play your turn, so why not give all the players a little room? That will also prevent early elimination, which, I can assure you, is no fun when you're greatly anticipating such a game.

Six months or a year from now, if the pitboss box is showing enough strain, I'll scrape up something with a bit more horsepower. At this point, I'd just say that a huge map means an upgrade sooner than I may be able to provide one.
I do roughly daily saves on the OT Civivor game already, and at least weekly to a separate machine, so short of the place burning down we wouldn't be completely SOL.

Pitboss machine is up - IP is 12.30.20.90, game password is 'testing'. I've got it running a huge islands map with 17 random human players, so grab a civ and ensure you can connect - please don't assign passwords to the individual civs though.
Post here if you can or can't connect and I'll leave it running until we start the actual game.
