We also have a problem in France : the Ribéry mania ! This player look very good, at least when he enters the field at the end of the match, but this has reached unbelievable proportions here. Before the match, I prefered Ribéry to be a golden sub rather than starting the match ; in the second round it would be time for him to start matches. Yesterday he burnt himself during the first half, without being decisive (he made a bad pass to Henry instead of taking his chance). And yes, we should forget how good our players are. And have a good team instead. There will be plenty of time next year to celebrate our players if they win the WC, like in 1998. I hope that our team will at least make some nice football for you all.

I still think Italy has all the tools to put together a nice world cup run. Get up early and smother people works really well.

Rich and famous is he who bet on Spain today. Their 3rd goal is robbed (there shouldn't have been red card nor penalty), but what a fan-tas-tic 4th goal !!! Amazing action by Spain and great finish ! Spain is back, beware.

Halftime POL - GER and an interesting match it is. Both teams going for the goal and still 0-0 although either team could have scored. The Polish are playing much better than the first match and although Germany doesn't need to win to go through they are going for it.

1-0 for Germany. The Polish goalie was literally bombed with balls in the end ! The Germans deserved the win. On TV they said that Poland was eliminated, but I disagree. They can get through if Germany gets 9 points, and if Costa Rica wins against Ecuador, and if they win against Costa Rica with the best goal average. Not ?

Poland could get through if, if, if. And if they do I doubt they can contribute a lot in the rest of the tournament. The 2nd half definitely was for Germany but it took them a lot of opportunities and energy to make to the well deserver goal. Therefore I'm not sure if they will get that many opportunities in the knock-out phase.

The end of the match was very nice to watch. Too bad I predicted Poland to win though. But that goal was so very deserved!
Our commentator said it very accurately: Leo Beenhakker (coach of Trinidad) put in an extra attacker to keep the Swedish away from their goal. Pawel on the other hand put in an extra defender. The result was the ball didn't leave the Polish penalty area.

To be fair, Dwight Yorke was more playing as a defender. But the general idea still counts. I didn't really think there was a reason to substitute yet, but after the substitution it only got worse.
Nice trivium: this was the first German victory over a European opponent in a tournament since 1996

So what're the chances of a Germany - England 2nd round match?
That's how it stands at the moment.

2-0 England v T&T. Another good result for England but not a great performance I'm not sure what we are lacking, maybe its just that we aren't quite gelling as a team, or maybe erikkson is to blame, meh, i dunno. I'm sure we are a better team than our performance so far says though. In good news we could now face Germany in the 2nd round It's not a proper world-cup unless England play Germany. |
