old civ/col games GOTM series
A while ago I suggested a sort of GOTM competition spanning different civ/col/ac games. Just installed Col (the old one, not the remake) and that seems like a nice start for this series.
If there still are takers I'll post a save in this thread to play. I suggest we follow this up with an old civ (1, 2 or 3) or alpha centauri. I suggest we take it easy time wise. and make this game last till 15th september allowing for enough time for vacationers to play as well.

I think it's a good idea. I think it'd be even better if we made everyone play. I've heard complaints about civ4 and civ5, but I haven't heard complaints about col and civ1, 2 or 3 (besides the PTW compensation plan).
However, I don't think I can play at a pace to finish a GOTM in timely manner.

I'd need to find the CD where I have the old Col on...
Count me in, although I don't about the timeframe either. I don't know whether I have Civ I somewhere but maybe we could try a time frame of one year for all, which means about 2 months per game. We could do it with overlapping time frames though.

Lets's extend the timeframe a fair bit then, let's say 31st of Octobre. That will give ample time to everyone. I plan to do a spoiler as well, so extra time is welcome
I was thinking to start a map on a new world on tough difficulty (that level 4 out of 5). I dont mind what nation we use, although I like to play as the dutch

We should allow multiple attempts at the same save so folk that finish early can have fun!

How can you not own the original Col???? I even bought the windows version a decade ago for a 2 euros or something, when it was dumped all over the place.
Colonization can be downloaded from different abandonware sites, both in windows and dos version. Windows version won't install on 64bit windows versions so you need to download a patch for that as well. Also available from fan sites. Easiest way to go is the DOS version and DosBox imo. Googling this is the 1st site I encounter, but you'll find other sites as well without a doubt. Chances are you'll have to adjust the CPU cycles setting in the dox box config file to get it to run smoothly. I changed 'auto' to 'max' and it runs fine for me. Others seem to have success with 7500 & 12500. Another option is to buy it from good old games (www.gog.com) They adjust old games to run on new computers. It makes installing easy and all games from GOG are DRM free, also a good option.
