Dutch freedom party MP clearly doesn't understand the basis of scientific research.

I'll try to write up a translation cause it's extremely funny. Mrs Helder from the PVV makes a complete fool of herself when she talks about why she thinks that certain research results should be disregarded.

For now sadly for dutch speakers only

I've given seminars in statistics at the university. This is just too embarrassing to watch.

Then again, since this is the house of representatives, she's a good representation of her party's voters.

I thought this sort of stupidity was limited to the US.

Then, Merkel (someone with a Dr. in physics) said she wanted a cheat and liar to continue as secretary in charge of the Bundeswehr university because she "had not hired him as a research assistant".

Now this - the stupid is spreading in Europe.

I fear that other parties have the same sort of people in their mids. Maybe their a bit more adequate in hiding their ineptitude but I;m convinced they're there.

PVV should invest in party assistants and media training I guess. But let's hope they don't and we all can have a good laugh once in a while.

Of course they're there. Stupidity is on no way correlated to political preference.

Then again, I always had my doubts about people that vote for SGP, but in all likelyhood that's more related to brain-washing and peer pressure than real stupidity...

Observer's bias perhaps? I think that that's a really overlooked part of this discussion. For example, I really can't understand why anyone with even half a brain would EVER have voted for Femke Halsema, because many of the things she said were just completely counterintuitive to me.

But the key words in that sentence are "to me". It's just my opinion, in all likelihood fundamentally biased by my political preference (which fairly obviously is not Groen Links)...

I don't agree with all things Halsema said either but I don't think she stupid either. In fact she seems pretty smart to me. Maybe that's why she quit politics
