That's not a heavy machine for the minimum system requirements. But "dual core" means next to nothing, unfortunately. I'm also wondering if recommended requirements will let you play huge maps on high settings. One thing strikes me as odd: the recommended quad core. A lot of games don't make use of quad cores properly, even using two cores optimally is quite a feature. You might want to read up on that if you're considering buying a new game PC.

"Dual core" is not even what I have... I have less RAM than Minimum...so I probably need to wait until I can play Civ5...

Huh, how can you even run XP properly with less than 2 GB... You can buy the parts for such a computer for less than 100 euro's, with the only major investment going in the memory cards and the hard drive.

I doubt that it will run on my laptop with integrated Intel graphics. The new desktop will be fine though.

I used to run Windows XP on my PC which had 256 MB of RAM, and it was OK. In 2002 it was, and so it was in early 2009.

Same here. Well, my Duron 850MHz had 384 MB RAM. But WinXP ran fine!
Don't forget how damn old that OS is, Shabba.
