I figured that out before, but that's pointless. The bar is still there, but then without the favorites/bookmarks. I want the bar gone, so that there's more room for the webpage itself.

did you get the customize window open? When it opens your Bookmarks toolbar turns into an all the favourite on the toolbar into 1 icon called Bookmarks, you can then drag and drop it into the customize toolbar window. This will leave you with a blank toolbar, click on view->toobars and untick the Bookmarks toolbar an it disappears and you have more viewing space

Doh, that's it! It has nothing to do with customizing the toolbars. I just had to deselect it right there. Thanks!!
