New toy
Bossie thought it a good idea the ppl in my group got new notebooks replacing the "poorly" equipped PIII 733 workhorses we've been carrying around for 2 years now.
So next to me stands a Thinkpad T40 with 1,5 GHz Pentium (Centrino that is), 1 GB Mem, 40GB HD, Radeon 32 MB video, build in 802.11b and Bluetooth, DVD player CD-RW combo. And the other shit pretty obvious in stuff like this. Worth mentioning are the three cursor moving devices: - Touchpad for sticky fingers [] - TrackPoint, nicked "the clit" among collegues - And of course a Rat for the real work. That's what we really needed to run MS Office and Klotus Notus. What I like about it is the TFT screen, large, bright and sharp. The phenomal keyboard (how long will it last) and lbnl it weighs only 2 kg. It indeed comes with a blue button called Access IBM and I've been pressing it like hell but it doesn't satisfy expectations raised by commercials. Nothing happens. So why bother you with it? Apart from being able to play 1.15 and 1.22 in parallel conveniently it will also boost my SETI@home output bringing little evil green men closer to your doorstep. Make sure your phasers are loaded.

I'm still looking for an up-to-date notebook, that comes with a RS232 serial port.
Unlike boys toys, industrial equipment interfaces are not subject to change every other year ... (Yeah, I know, get an USB -> serial interface! But only one out of three devices are really working bug-free with any programmer's idea of protocol. Grrhm!) (Anyway, I wouldn't mind you donating your left-over P733 to me...)

That would be the little thingie that you find in the center of many laptop keyboards to control the mouse cursor with and which feels so good to lay your finger on
