Eurovision Song Contest 2009
Has someone else watched both semifinals?
I like to watch those as well, as there are always nice songs where you don't get the chance to hear it over here in our stupid radio stations. And every year, there are nice songs which don't make it to the final. So here are my personal favorites of those that didn't make it: Switzerland (although he could have sung better), Andorra, Macedonia and Cyprus. NL has (IIRC as in every semifinal they where) failed to qualify, but yesterday, that was really bad. There were a lot of nice songs, but so far, I don't see a real winner song, it is very hard to predict (in last two years, I picked the right winner the day before). My personal favorite so far is Iceland, but haven't heard the song of Madame Kaas yet. The mix is nice, I guess, it will be a good show tomorrow, but sadly n rock song made it to the final, although Belarus, Macedonia, Switzerland and Ireland had nice ones (but not great either).

I watched it too. I just had to see the Toppers
I thought Moldavia had a catchy song. All in style with the now very popular Balkan Beat style. Reminded me of Disko Partizan from DJ Shantel.

(Like ProPain said a couple of years ago) although it's definitely not my style of music and all rather gayish, I find myself watching the damn thing with one eye year after year, not only because my wife is watching, but also because of nostalgia. But I have to admit when the votes are revealed is the most interesting part.

Oh, I think I heard bits of her song some time ago, and all I can say is I hope we France lose again, and badly.
BTW, her name in NL is... Cheese ?

That makes sense. You once said that nobody with a properly functioning brain believes in God.

The show was nice. The change from last year with the two semi-finals seems to pay off. Therefore the real crap like NL, Czech, Latvia got sorted out already. And so, there was no crap in the show, also because the big 4 send some decent songs, although personally, I think, the UK one was too high up in the ranking. I watch it like I watch a sports match, I don't know whether it is only crap or not, but I like to see how it turns out. But personally I was missing the highlights this year. There was no crap in the final but only 2 or 3 really really good songs for my taste (especially Iceland and Estonia were my favorites). We only have mainstream radio stations and bad music TV over here, so I like to hear other music once per year and get to know other sounds. Especially the Estonian one (sung in Estonian) is a very nice song, you'd never ever here in a radio station over here. The winner song was ok, didn't think it would win by that big margin.

quote] Interesting how most non-dutch people didn't really dig the Toppers and also were confused if they were serious at all. Although not my taste they have been quite a big thing around here for years and filling up the Ajax Arena stadium every year for a few times. Especially when they were in their original line up with the NL 2 most annoying gays in it.
