Default They're funny over there

I posted a sensitive message at that other site 2 days ago, and a mod wasn't happy about it. Here is the thing I got in my PM box and the replies that followed (edited so as to have him in red, me in blue, quotes in italic).

Quote:
quoteear kryszcztov,

You have received an infraction at Civilization Fanatics' Forums.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=5036996

Reason: Piracy
-------
Warned for advocating piracy.
-------

This infraction is worth 3 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire.

All the best,
Civilization Fanatics' Forums

Haha, it's like a driving licence.

OK, I'm going to gently answer to your automatic PM.

Have I advocated piracy ? Have I urged this poster to get a cracked version of Windows ? By simply stating a possibility ? I think not.
Have I infringed this rule :
Zero tolerance on piracy.
Posting links to warez sites and program cracks (including no-CD crack) are not allowed on the forum. Anyone found guilty of participating in piracy activity on the forum will be punished.

I think not.
You're welcome to tell me otherwise.

BTW, if you had done just a little research, you would have found I'm spreading the word about free software (ex : GNU/Linux, in my very own sig), just like Mod Padma. Doing this is precisely a way to get away from cracking software, so what's the hell are you talking about here ???

Also, by doing this, you're preventing people to warn other people about the danger of proprietary programs like Windows, especially the new Vista version. I personally consider cracking software like Windows not immoral, as those software are sold illegally with almost every PC in the world (in any case this is true in France).

In the end, I was almost sure I would be censored with this post, so it's not even funny.

As said previously, you're welcome to answer this. In the end, the power is in your hand. As for me, I'm going to search a way to get back my 3 points ; maybe by following a 1-week course about why piracy is bad ?

With sincerity and humour,

kryszcztov

You said:
The best solution in your case is indeed to get a cracked version of Windows. It's definitely the cheapest option, and it's quite easy to do : just get a cracked copy and a cracked key, install it, and you're done. SP2 and stuff can wait, just play.

Which is indeed advocating piracy, and is not allowed per the rule about 'Zero tolerance for piracy'.

If you disagree, take it up with Thunderfall.

Turner

Then I guess I am
found guilty of participating in piracy activity
I hope you're not a lawyer in RL. Please chill out.

Taking it up with Thunderfall ? If he is as friendly as you, no thanks.

kryszcztov
They need to calm down, me thinks.

Holy shit, a point system for policy infractions. How many points for the death penalty?

krys, I don't know the related posts or subject but you should have noticed that even on this site where you can shit / piss / fuck almost everything that comes to mind we are extremely carefull about what gave you your points. Your intentions may have been good but you could have expected this.

Nevertheless: a point system for policy infractions, they made a deal with Oracle for the database?

Me think not. You're guilty of suggesting someone to crack Windows.

You could say it wouldn't matter whether you're doing so or not (since I don't think Microsoft will hunt you down or anything), but zero tolerance is zero tolerance.

And yea, they have a point system these days. 8 points is a one week ban; 15 points two weeks; 30 points one month; 60 points permanent. Very handy: now we don't need to keep track ourselves how often and for what charges people have been warned or banned.

Yes, they do. After a month, IIRC...

Thunderfall is actually friendly and a very reasonable person IMHO or as far as my experience tells.

But rules of forum are rules of forum and you have to respect them. IMHO, your comment obviously violated them as Turner pointed that out. Whatever is the thingy with infarctions or infractions, it is rather cool.

And Microsoft sucks. Just like as Meli said.

krys, although I understand why you wrote that post in the first place, I think the mods acted ok here. Zero tolerance for Piracy even counts for evil products.

But that point system is funny. Now we can all advertise cracking windows once and know we don't get a ban, just 3 points...
