I've never seen anyone pull off a 20k. You'd most definitely shock the world if you did it but I think they'd catch on to your thinking and start building wonders. What you would need to have is a solid tech alliance with someone where you support them in their quest for a space victory while they help you get 20k and the wonders.
Ultimately, I can't think of a game that's gone very far past cavs and infantry so personally I would have one great partner that you fight mano a mano at the end. Manipulate the AI the best you can against your opponents.
