Sure, it happens all the time, I mean the thing about few more turns. Then you would want musketeers when I have cavalry and then you would want cavalry when I have riflemen. By the time you get infantry you would want bombers. It all would end with nukes and marines in the modern age.

No problem, lets play this one to until nukes, I'm fine with it.

However, in general, imho, it is not a good idea to play or even start these kinds of games without early amphibious units. Might be giving knights and macemen amphibious ability or create another unit, like Man-at-Arms (4.3.1 with 6 vet hit points; 4hp - regular and 7hp elite; cost 60 or 70 shields) available with Astronomy.

Otherwise, these games last a long time and their outcome is rather predictable. Unless there is some major diplomacy changes which are anticipated in case of replacement players.
