The battle engine - WTF

Finished my third game today end tried a defensive approach during the WoI. For jsut one turn cause the hole city defense mechanism seems to be screwed?

I mean how is it possible that multiple fortified Soldiers with City defense in a non-coastal city with a Fortress and having a +25 FF are killed by Dragoons? That's a strength 3 unit + 175% + 25% + 20% = 9.6 in defense vs. a Dragoon with + 20% strength! Thats 9.6 vs. 4.4 and more than once.

I imm. change to attack and won but imo the whole bonus system for city defense is broken. Or am I doing something wrong here?

Well, either you were extremely unlucky, or there's a bug. Perhaps you should look in the combat log to check if you're right about the chances.

I had the "feeling" I got screwed too! I'll check things out.

I checked things out. I'm fairly sure the wrong defending unit is picked. Dragoons, apparently, don't get any settlement defense bonus. Despite having several canons in my settlement, a dragoon is picked as defending unit.

Dragoons are not mentioned in colonopedia......

I think the bonus cannons get attacking settlements is ridiculous, my ones get 100% the REF 150%. Yet they are useless for anything else.

In my second game i found it more effecient to let the REF occupy a city then attack it back with my cannons
