KoE I - Civ III challenge

2 Attachment(s)
Both KR and myself reinstalled Civ III and have been playing this quite a bit lately. I'd like to have some sort of challenge for the game but I don't think a SG or PBEM will work out as RL stuff comes in between to much. Sometimes I can play a lot, sometimes not at all. So a gotm type game came to mind. Play in your own time and compare results with others.

Cause I'm seeing more CDZ folk have developed a renewed interest in CIV III (gotta love Steam where you can see what people play :P ) we thought we migth as well put the save up here so you all can participate.

Consider this a game similar to Matric Civ IV earthmap game. You can play it multiple times and try different finishes/improving score/improving finish date. Whatever suit you best.

The game

Iroquois (Miffy FTW!), standard map, continents, age/barbs/sea level etc all 'middle' settings, Emperor difficulty, C3C

Rerolled a few times to get a decent start. Can't post a screenie atm but the start has
- flood plains, including a wheat FP
- Gold hills in sight

Imo this is a fine start for fast growth and teching so even if you're rusty (like me) you should be able to win this fairly comfortably the first time round.

Some Civ III reminders

- Civ III is a micro management game, even though it's emperor you'll need to micro your starting city quite a bit as the Civ III governor qualified for his governing license by mail order crash course.
- FP cause disease
- unhappy = civil unrest -> see first bullit
- you can work tiles outside your city radius
- you only need to connect a resource to own & use it, no improvement needed
- you can build colonies

save & screenie attached!!

Spoilers are not necessary but always welcome.

I have a big job interview to prepare for next week but count me in next Tuesday night! Screeny please? :D

The game is actually quite okay, certainly worth giving it a go. I'll try to place a score asap so you guys got something to aim at. Don't worry, BC is probably not doable. :P

The name of the thread suggests that 1 cow is close. :)

I've been playing some C3C for the last weeks before Quentin's birth. I might play a couple of turns when I find some time.

ProPain 11-02-2011 13:42

Played untill the late BC's and it's a fun map.

Kingreno 15-02-2011 00:48

Ok, just finished it at 1300 AD. Domination vic.

Why this can be beaten (easily?):

- I had the governor on from turn 6.
- I paid minor attention to important aspects.
- turn 50 to 120 were not played sober.

Cheers.

Kingreno 17-02-2011 11:54

So anyone playing this game? Or are y'all wasting time on civ V? :p

ProPain 17-02-2011 12:18

I'm playing but RL stuff is getting in the way atm.

For those who might enjoy such things, I've unearthed the old start planner (use fpwag to start and fpwagi to account for the flood plain what, agricultural trait, and irrigation):

Kingreno 17-02-2011 18:40

RL?? Don't know that... Can I get it at Steam?

ProPain 17-02-2011 18:50

You can but it's unaffordable. They're affraid you'll be a lost cause for gaming.

Terrain modpack with large BG's: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showth...threadid=35330
Smiley icons for F1 advisor: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showth...threadid=10197
I know I'd have a hard time living without them.
Also, it seems some of the programming of the old start planner isn't compatible with excel 2007. Gonna have to wing it here, so to speak.

ProPain 18-02-2011 01:05

what's that start planner, can't remember ever seeing that before?

Have played a bunch of turns again, at the 1000AD mark atm. Not doing to bad considering all the mistakes I made. (Like building archers for defense.....[blush][wallbash])

Not going to beat the 1300AD score but I'm confident I'll win.

Turns out to be a very interesting map imho.

Disguised ripoff from Rik's historical sig. [;)]

Beorn 18-02-2011 19:31

what it does (or used to, mine doesn't seem to work on excel 2007) is allow you to tell it what tiles you want to work on, plan worker moves, tinker a bit with how much food and shields you have at a given time etc - allowing you to optimize your micro ahead of time by knowing when you'll hit 30 shields at the same time as a pop cap for instance.

See here for an example: http://www.civduelzone.com/forum/sho...98&postcount=2

Exactly! The wrath of the social life is here.

As for the game, if 1300 AD is steep you will probably all beat PP who is still busy cleaning his homeland at 1000 AD and is now aiming for a diplo vic (somewhere is the 1900ds...) or a space ship (1950?).

ProPain 19-02-2011 11:49

I'll have a restart after I'm done the first time round and focus on mil instead of sciene :)

ProPain 23-02-2011 01:20

Cleared my continent and shifting focus on teching. :)

ProPain 26-02-2011 09:08

Finished: Hiawatha the Magnificent achieved a diplo vic in 1715AD :D

Kingreno 28-02-2011 10:54

Welld one PP. Map was ok, I'll try to make a new one this week for KoE: KoE 2.
