To sell or not to sell, part 2
I've been training wingers for years, and this has long been quite profitable. About a year ago I decided it was time to sell this guy, Gisbert van Harten. I bought him as a wingback, so he'd benefit from the training my wingers get. By that time his winger skill was supernatural or something, pretty high compared to his brilliant defending skill. I couldn't sell him for a price I wanted to get: at least more than I payed for him.
Anyway, to get to the point: I'm sure I overpaid for this particular player, but I'm quite sure I didn't overpay for my primary trainees (quick with decent PM). My conclusion is that (once again) the economy went belly up, or whatever it is, I don't know... Now, some of these guys are getting old enough to dump them and grab whatever petty cash I can get (if I would need the money, that is), but what do you do with players that you will lose money on if you sell them? Sell them? |
Do you intent to keep training wingers?
Does he take up a place in you training scheme? How is his salary compared to similar player at this position? Do you have the time to scout for a replacement? 30 y.o is pretty much the deadline of getting reasonable money for a player. |
My two A-team wingers are in the same category: too little revenue, too old. Though compared to the wingback I actually need those two to stay competitive. My star player won't net me 2M, though I paid 1.3M. Hm, come to think of it, that is actually a profit. Perhaps I should sell him.

I would sell it but I would also likely wait til the start (week 2 or 4) to do the selling as prices are as depressed as possible right now.

Sell. Something is better than nothing. Unless he has solid leadership. Then let him stay to coach. I think with wingers you need to sell at around 28 and 30 is a bit stretching.

I think that the prices will rise during the first half of next season. Second teams will put some money into the system.
Not a big explosion of prices, but probably worth keeping your players a few weeks. |

sell at the start of the season.

I trained a winger for two years (years, not seasons), and sold him at age 25 for 1.8M. I'm not sure if it's even worth training for that amount of money.
