Man, suddenly I feel envy because you get to live in the center of Paris.

In short, the girl renting my appartment in Paris screwed me hard, and I was forced to let her stay one more year there. Meanwhile, I quit my company in May, because they could not find me an assignment at one client. Which means I was idle from mid-December to mid-May. Now I am at another French bank, working on the upcoming SEPA format, which basically is to electronic cash transfer what the Euro has been to currency: one format for every European country. Actual work is scarce, but I do not mind much, as it lets me more time and brain power to work on my personal project (more on that later). |

Appartment on sale! :D
The girl living there left last month, so I was able to get the keys back, clean some stuff. After thinking a little while, I took the decision to sell this appartment, so as to buy another one, bigger and closer to the center. Another idea I had lately was to go work in Luxemburg. But I thought this would add complexity to the whole, so I abandonned the idea. My assignment stopped 2 weeks ago, and now I'm idle again (still under contract). So that's plenty of free time to manage the appartement things. :) Oh btw, forgot to say I'm single again. Well that's life... |
Woah, five years have passed. Fiiiiive years, as David B. would sing (RIP).
In a nutshell, I live in Seattle, WA right now. In a nutshell, but I don't live in a nutshell. :) And I don't play Civ or any game at all. |
Well, with the problems you had with your appartment back then, it is nice to hear that you don't have to live in a nutshell ;-)
|
Puzzled on why you wouldn't be gaming, but good that you show up here to spread the good news that you are alive and kicking. What are you doing in Seattle? Some big company?
|
It's a mix of using Linux and not Windows, being lazy keeping up with new games, feeling there are other things I would do. I'm not entirely disconnected though, there's something I'd like to do if I get back to it. And I'm playing quite a lot of board games these days, Seattle is full of people into that.
I got very lucky getting a green card at the Diversity Visa Lottery. :D I moved here in October 2017 with just my luggages. Now working as a software developer in a small company. I switched to full-time coding (from almost none) three years ago back in Paris. |
That sounds like a fun adventure.
|
Ah, another coder! The world still has a huge shortage of those, so good for you. :)
|
I'm specialized in web scraping. It's like solving a puzzle via retro-engineering. :)
|
Last weekend I moved in with my girlfriend, whom I met last year. :) We're renting a townhouse in the city. Working from home, like some many other techies.
|
A friend of mine was teaching in Paris and got stuck there for 3 weeks when confinement first hit (then flew back to Québec somehow). 2 young kids in a small apartment, endless fun :p
How is it these days? Or were you back in Seattle? |

Is there anybody out there?
Anyway, I became a dad last month! :D Life is crazy, blah blah blah... Oh and I've just been laid off at work after almost 5 years there. I need to find a better job, but at least I have the partner and the kiddo. |
Congratulations!
Have fun with your kid, and good luck for the job hunt! At least over here it seems like currently there are a lot of job offers... |

As for anybody being out here, a few people still check in, but the software isn't doing great. I've set up a Discord, 9 of us are there. Check this thread: http://www.civduelzone.com/forum/sho...2&postcount=14 |
