Steam summer sale has started

After a lot of anticipation on the Steam forum at least, the summer sale has started. Be sure to check it out as some really good deals are to be gotten. As well as some crap ones, but that could also be my taste in games. :)

I would love to hear if and what you all are buying. Or why you're not buying anything :)

Furiey 01-07-2011 00:13

Still no job so trying to resist...

Did buy Denmark for Civ 5 though.

ProPain 01-07-2011 01:51

Magicka for 16,xx will prolly be too much for me to pass on.

Have some other games that look good for the sales price but like you I try to resist. Saw that Darkness went all out however :)

Shabbaman 01-07-2011 09:09

Tropico 3 is on sale as well, although it isn't mentioned on the sale page. I just found out that Tropico 4 is close to it's release date. I have to say that Tropico 3 with the expansion Absolute Power is one of the funniest game there is. If you are a demented dictator who likes to starve his people, this is the game for you. And since you're all playing civ I think that description fits all of you.

ProPain 01-07-2011 09:25

I bought Tropico 1&2 for like 1.50€ a month ago or something, very good and very funny. Immediately bought Tropico3 as well and I agree with Shabba: funny and good game. In short it's sim-city with a twist as you have to keep several factions on your island happy as well.To do so you can give them things like free elementary education but if you don't care about education you can assasinate the faction leader as well.

socralynnek 01-07-2011 09:28

I have enough games for PC and WII left that I'd like to play more often (e.g. still Civ4 or Defense Grid or Mario Kart...oh, and I bought Sid Meier' Railroads once for 3 Euro and still haven't installed...). But I'll have a look.

And for Civ5 and most other up to date games, I still need a faster machine...

Tropico 3 sounds nice, I had Tropico 1 and it was already fun.

Saw some good deals on games that I wanted to buy (they were already in the shopping cart after I had looked around the store a couple of weeks ago) so I figured why wait? Got over 50% discount so the timing was nice... :D

If you can't run civ5, I don't think you can run Tropico 3. But there's a free demo on Steam.

ProPain 01-07-2011 15:18

Toki Tori is on sale for €1.12, I highly recommend this game. Think lemmings (for you old school peeps out there) puzzler game, difficulty ramps up pretty quickly.

The game is more about puzzling than timing and comes with a really nice rewind feature that lets you rewind a map to a previous position when you messed up. Saves you from starting all over every time.

Shabbaman 05-07-2011 10:31

I don't get it: I bought Tropico 3 a few days ago. It was on a 33% discount. Yesterday it was on a 75% discount, and now it's on a 33% discount again. Wait, what? So, sunday I bought Football Manager 2011 (yes, I finally gave up real life) on a 50% discount, yesterday it was on a 25% discount.

But now it's official: I have more games than I can possibly play.

In other news: Fallout: New Vegas is on a 75% discount today.

grahamiam 05-07-2011 13:59

Don't overlook Amazon's download service either as they are having a summer sale. Some games are priced better there. Just bought Dawn of Discovery Gold (Anno 1401) for $10.

Another tip: refer to Didimatic for online download prices http://didimatic.com/dd/en/onsale/

[bump]

Spending spree so far: dual pack Portal 2.

barbu1977 13-07-2012 19:41

I saw heroes of might and magic VI at 50%. Tempting.

Edit: Meh, just read many so-so review.

Shabbaman 13-07-2012 20:07

My only rule for this summer sale I intend to keep is that I only buy stuff at 75% discount. If it's not at 75%, chances are high it'll be at 75% some time anyway. I make an exception for Sins of a solar Empire though.

Furiey 13-07-2012 23:18

The DLC for SpaceChem. Resisting anything else so far. Tempted by the Universe Sandbox. I could use that for Physics (excuse)...

I have Portal 2, got as a free bonus with a Galaxy tab for children. Complete crap. Reviews are good but the game is very idiotic especially the story.

Shabbaman 14-07-2012 14:09

I have Portal 1 as well. I liked it because it has a lot of humor, but it got tedious after a few levels.

akots 14-07-2012 16:31

The humor in Portal 2 repeats itself in an unwieldy manner IMO.

grahamiam 14-07-2012 16:46

I enjoyed Portal 2, liked the humor as well. A lot of puzzles are pretty easy, but some were very satisfying when solved. Ending was pretty silly, but fun.

This.

I bought Duex Ex: HR at 75% off. Was very tempted by Bioshock 2 for $5 (75% off as well), but held off. I enjoyed the first one but then watched some videos of #2 and decided that DE would be enough for my sneakie-shooter self.

Well, if I can laugh repeatedly at Sid Meier's Pirates, repetitive humor will do. There aren't that many funny games around. It was cheap enough that I'm sure it will be worth my money. But otoh: I didn't wait to buy it for so long without reason.

I almost bought DR some time ago. I'd like it on the PS3 though.

grahamiam 15-07-2012 05:05

Goddamnit Meli, you have to wait for the sale before buying. That fool bought endless space at full price! I bet it'll be on sale before the end of this.

Shabbaman 15-07-2012 13:00

It was my praise for the game that pushed him over the brink ;) I'm not sure Endless Space will go on a discount, as it just got released. I feel it's a little bit too expensive at the current price point (though it might be a better investment than G&K at the same price).

I bought the DLC for Tropico 4. Modern Times has a lot of new content.

grahamiam 16-07-2012 03:52

I saw on the steamforums that the developer basically stated that they can't put it on sale already. They need the extra money, so [thumbsup] for Meli.

Oh, and it's on sale for 17% off here -> http://www.gamesrocket.com/ if anyone wants it at a lower price. I've never bought from that website, so buyer beware.

grahamiam 16-07-2012 05:06

Atom Zombie Smasher is $5 right now. $10 as part of Indie Bundle 4. Either way, it's worth it.

Still, if you're looking for a bargain, it's worth to wait until the end of the Steam Sale. There might be a discount coupon coming up with the "treasure hunt": all other holiday sales had something to offer, but it's not yet clear what is coming out of this one. My guess is a discount coupon.

Oh btw, did I mention that Endless Space is a really nice game?

Shabbaman 16-07-2012 11:01

Oh, X3 is on a 75% sale, tempting...

ProPain 16-07-2012 17:01

Portal2: Only played a starting level but I loved Portal 1. And the credit song is great too!

Bought Civ3 complete in the flash sale cause one of my discs is broken, managed to restrain myself on other sales.

Been playing Dungeons of Dredmor a lot the last few weeks and it's great. I can really recommend it, it's a brilliant roguelike. Turn based blis, but difficult. Prepare to die :) It's at 60% discount now so they;re basically giving it away at 2 euros or something (in the UK, I get only GBP in steam now)

Shabbaman 16-07-2012 21:49

THIS IS A TRIUMPH

ProPain 17-07-2012 01:18

I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.

Shabbaman 17-07-2012 10:49

Not really something interesting on sale today. Thankfully ;)

ProPain 17-07-2012 11:12

Skyrim is on sale :)

Really tempted but won't buy myself atm. Still have fallout 3/morrowind/oblivion to start with

Shabbaman 17-07-2012 11:31

It's no 75% discount ;) EU3 is on a flash sale btw.

Furiey 17-07-2012 22:08

I fell for a virtual train set...

ProPain 17-07-2012 23:17

Being on a holiday in the UK atm and can't help noticing that Britons love their trains. :P

Indie bundle looks nice. I've been thinking about buying Ticket to Ride for the ipad, heard good things about the board game. Space chem is really good, DefCon good some good reviews as well.

Shabbaman 17-07-2012 23:42

Ticket to ride is great.

I know of nothing more universally despised. Except, perhaps, the bus.

Furiey 18-07-2012 00:38

I'm more into steam locos than diesel so will probably look out for some of the DLC at some point in the future - drive a Duchess up Shap!

Spacechem is excellent.

I've seen the boardgame version of ticket to ride on tabletop, not seen the computer version though.

barbu1977 18-07-2012 02:53

I have played many times both versions.

It's a great "eurogame". The computer version is the same as the board game. The computer version plays very fast since you don't have to manipulate trains cards, count points, etc. However, it's harder to keep track of who picked what cards.

You can see that by the tiny colored dots next to the player avatars.
