I don't know WoW, except by name, and that it seems to be very addictive. (There was an article about it in NRC this weekend!)

So what for game is it, and what's the fun?

it's an MMORPG, Massive Multiplayer Online RPG. It's the Blizzard version of Everquest and Asheron's Call. I;ve never played AC but I played EQ: WoW is much better.

It's a bit like Diablo although quests are much more important than in Diablo, which is more of an hack 'n slash game imo (which I enjoy a lot as well)

WoW In short, you choose a char on horde or alliance side, choose a class and a name and your on your way. You start leveling by doing some introductory quests and after that you off to explore the world of warcraft. The world is quite vast, after almost a year of playing I still havent seen it all, but then I play 10 chars simultaneously so I dont have a lvl 60 char yet.

You can do quests, choose a profession (miner, blacksmith, engineer, clothier, leatherworker, herbalist, alchemist.....) or just grind through levels by killing mobs. Very addictive and lots of fun.

Thanks. :) I wanted to say I'd give it a try, but the problem with these games is you really need to buy it to get an account. Civ is the only game I buy without having played it first. [rolleyes]

I think I'll buy it when it's a bit cheaper, and when I have the time to play it. [mischief]

What's up with having a level 60 character?

It's the highest possible level.

At the moment, the expansion will allow you to get to level 70.

You would not believe me if I told you how long it takes to get to 60.

There's Guildwars, just as good but you don't have to pay a monthly fee. WoW will never get cheaper: crack isn't getting cheaper because the whores are getting older, now is it? ;)

Come to think of it, why aren't you guys playing Guild wars to begin with? It looks pretty cool (and reasonably cheap).

Well, WOW is just great, i played diablo and diablo II
Spent like 3 years on diablo II and still never got to lvl 99 :D

Anyways, as most ppl above has posted, WOW is just one huge game, and as mel said, it took me 5 months to get to lvl 60 with my hunter. Thing is the amount of ppl that you meet and things to do. I mean, in Diablo II, you solo any of the bosses at anytime, in WOW, the harder bosses takes 40 ppl to kill one mob, and thats damn hard to do. Theres a video of a guild that killed ONYXIA, one of the big ass dragons in the game. The fight took like 13 minutes on one boss. . . . just to give an idea. And then the item farming starts. Its not like in diablo where you go, kill boss, and repeat for like a zillion times. If theres a lot of ppl in the raid, and one item drop you have to roll "dice" to see who rolls higest, and that person then gets the item, and you cant trade or sell it sometimes to other ppl. So the only way to get it, it to do it over and over till you one day get the item.

No fuckin chance. I still play and so does a colleague at work. We are currently working on a couple of Horde characters, my hunter is now level 36. His warlock is around the same.

The new expansion, The Burning Crusade, is out on January the 16th and I'm very much looking forward to that :)
