THE INTRODUCTION by the mapmaker:

Today’s your lucky day. You’ve discovered a magic lamp and the Genie of the Lamp will grant you 3 wishes for the next PBEM game.

Your first wish is you get to spend 300 shields on any Ancient Age units you want.

Your second wish is to add a new trait and the matching starting tech, if you already have that tech you’ll get to pick the new starting tech for your tribe.

Your third wish is to add a pair of new UUs to your tribe (that’ll give you 3). Your new UUs will have to be a UU of another tribe.

Since I’m feeling generous I’ll give you a bonus wish, you get to pick your AI neighbor.

Number of human players: 4
Number of AI: 4
Level: Monarch
Size: Large
Map: Normal weather & terrain on a Continents map
Barbarians: None (no huts either)
SGL: On (no restrictions on usage)
Statue of Zeus: Minor Wonder requires Horses
Knights Templar: Minor Wonder requires Iron
Great Library: Add a library to each continental city – Expires with Education

Starting bonus: AI start with 2 settlers, 2 workers & 50g
Humans start with 200g
Wish 1 (Starting units): 300 shields to spend on starting units
Wish 2 (New trait): Add a new trait to your tribe (added to your normal 2)
Wish 3 (New UUs): Add a new 2 UUs to your tribe (total of 3 UU)
Restrictions: Must be AA units (remember to include a settler)
The UUs you select must be a UU of another tribe

Special rules: All players can build AC (Mathematics) & Crusaders (Theology)
Bonus wish is you get to pick your AI neighbor

Roster:
Knutis: England + SCI (Bronze Working) – Siphai & Panzer – Egypt

Calis: Byzantines + AGR (Pottery) – Cossack & Panzer – America

Cyc: France + AGR (Pottery) – Gallic Sword & Chinese Rider – India

DenyD: Ottoman + AGR (Pottery) – Berserk & Panzer – Korea

These are the additional choices of all players regarding extra trait and extra two UUs

As this is a continents map, I went for a seafaring civ hoping to meet many others early. Regarding the additional trait I was thinking between industrial and agricultural and finally took the agreicultural trait for quick expansion.

The choice of the two extra additional UUs: I was the first to come up with Panzers, and I actually regretted it when I saw that two others went with the same choices, but ok....Regarding the Cossacks I have to admit that I love them for their blitz ability with which they can really produce a bunch of MGLs.

My 300 shields I used for 6 settlers (180), 10 workers (280), 2 scouts (300)

I took the risk of taking no military units to be able to get a bunch of cities early. I do not exactly know what the others took, but nobody took a majority of military units, So I do not have to fear an early rush with starting units. Nonetheless, I have to get some military soon.

The playing order:
Calis - Byzantines
Knutis - England
Cyc - French
DenyD - Ottoman Empire

Just today I got the first turn and will open it in a few minutes. So more is to come real soon...

Calis 20-10-2008 21:27

Here is the starting situation:

http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/2...tartxe9.th.jpghttp://img329.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif

And this is the situation after my first move:

http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/7...movecs8.th.jpghttp://img329.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif

I moved two settlers each to the east and to the southeast, as there is a river and my first cities shall be located near rivers of course...and one settler went to the north probably founding another coastal town...

I moved 4 workers onto the cow, so I can irrigate it next turn and three each to the east and the southeast to road these tiles

I am thinking about a rather tight city placing just to get a head start over the others and to be able to quickly expand, but I will review this idea after uncovering more land. So far there seem to be tons of BG tiles and these would allow for such an extremyly tight build.

Any questions and/or comments?

These lands are really fertile...there are several spots for settler factories...

What do you guys think about settling the red dots?

Do you think that's too tight or is it ok? If I need space later in the game I could abandon the military city...

Personally, I'd say the red dots are too close to each other. OTOH, I must say, I never played a Civ3 PBEM (the only one I started got stuck in the AA)

The variant sounds really interesting.

I also wondered why you'd all pick Panzers, but yeah, vs those players a game not decided in Modern Age might be quite a possibility.

Seems like Hills were sold out...

If you doN't have a human neighbor on your continent, then probably your decision to go with Settlers and workers was a good one. I guess.

Now that all my initial six settlers have found their home, this is the situation:

I am worst in score:

http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/6...3600ly9.th.jpghttp://img528.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif

But I do not know what the others did to get to that score. But anyway, the demograph says I am rather good in some important disciplines:

http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/9...raphng9.th.jpghttp://img517.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif

Especially the 1st place in GNP gives me hope for the Philosophy-->Republic slingshot...

And I met the Americans!!

I gave them Bronze working & Alphabet for Masonry & all of their gold (around 40)

Most of the other players have Alphabet anyway and the Americans won't be a threat for Philosophy, so I gave it away...

short update:

http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/1...3100fs5.th.jpghttp://img513.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif

I have eight cities now.

In three turns I'll have Code of Laws and hopefuly can get Philosophy in time for the Republic sling shot.

The demographics say, I am doing rather well:

http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/9...raphue2.th.jpghttp://img513.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif

I didn't meet anyone else so far. So it's just expanding for a while.

EDIT: Ahh, I forgot Denyd was lucky and got an SGL. He used him to build the Pyramids.

ProPain 18-11-2008 22:26

Well it's been ages since I've played Civ3 (SP & MP) but seeing the screenies makes me wanna get it out and play :)

Nice starting spot, lots of green, some cows and wheat, couldn't be better.

So why are you building your cities so close to each other? Plan to keep em small or counting on a short game?

And you can upload pics here as well in the attachment menu. We have heaps of server space so no need to use imageshack.

Calis 18-11-2008 23:11

Well, actually I wanted to get a head start over my opponents to get to Republic. And it looks good so far. In about 4-5 turns I will know more.

ProPain 25-11-2008 12:43

So, how are things progressing?

Calis 25-11-2008 12:50

Will post an update with the next save. Then I'll know whether I succeeded with the Philo --> Republic sling shot...

I didn't succeed with the Philo --> Republic slingshot. But as I always was number one in GNP, I don't think that anyone has got Republic. I started researching it on my own and will be finished in 13 turns, which gives me some more time to expand and be better prepared for Republic.

Very soon I will have three 4-turn settler factories running and will expand very rapidly...

As for the Americans...let them build some infrastructure and then I will run through them to get their luxuries...

I just found the borders of the Koreans, another AI civ...

In the meantime I researced Republic the old fashioned way. Now I am in Anarchy for another 5 turns I met denyd (Ottomans), who got an SGL veery early and rushed the Pyramids with him. He offered me Maths, Polytheism & Litereature for Republic. I accepted, but denied any long-term deals. I am planning to build lots of Dromons early on and then bring fire to my opponents, especially the Pyramids man.

We'll see...

I am now in Republic!

http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/r...DD14BC1990.jpg

I met the English (Knutis) and the gave me Map Making for Iron Working & Horseback Riding.

With the Ottomans I agreed on a trade Republic for Polytheism, Maths & Literature.

So right now I continue to build settlers. And right after I got Literature, I will quickly build Libraries in all my core towns.

In coastal towns I started habors, as I am planning to build a dromon fleet.

Here are the demographics:

ProPain 08-06-2009 08:06

So is this still running?

And looking at your pics makes me wanna play CivIII again. The graphs are lot clearer imo. We need a 2D mod for C-IV :p

Calis 11-06-2009 09:45

I will update this one after playing my next turn. We are rather far already.

Shabbaman 11-06-2009 10:06

With more pretty pictures please!

Calis 16-03-2010 14:56

Sorry folks,

This game was not the most exciting, actually. As a proof: It ended with a diplomatic victory.

As I mentioned in my previous posts, The Ottomans had a very early SGL and built the Pyramids with it. I fear, this was the point when the game was decided. Then the Ottomans protected enough AI civs to be sure to get their voices.

Shabbaman 21-03-2010 13:09

Pity.

Calis 22-03-2010 12:39

I just started playing a new PBEM. If there is any interest here, I could start a new spoiler for this one.

Shabbaman 22-03-2010 13:15

Yes please! Your spoilers are always good to read.

BCLG100 22-03-2010 23:08

spoilers are always of interest
