Krispy Kreme Challenge

I'll participating in the annual Krispy Kreme Challenge in Raleigh, NC.

From the website
Quote:

The Krispy Kreme Challenge is an annual,
student-operated race in Raleigh, North Carolina
benefiting the NC Children's Hospital. Beginning
in 2004 with a mere 12 participants,the race
has grown exponentially to a whopping 3,000
runners in the 2008 race and has rapidly become
one of NC State University's newest traditions.

Beginning at the NC State Belltower, each runner
runs 2 miles to the Krispy Kreme store located
on Peace St. in Raleigh. After downing a full dozen
of the famous Krispy Kreme doughnuts, the runner
must run the two miles back. All in one hour.

The challenge attracts a wide range of runners from
beginners to serious competitors hailing from all
corners of the country. With an expected participation
of 5,000 runners, we are expecting the 2009 race
to be our greatest (and most beneficial) race yet.

Some famous guy once said: "Doughnuts, I'd sell my soul for a doughnut..."

Sounds like fun. And the energy won by eating gets lost by running...Seems like a Win-Win situation ;-)

Can we make bets on how long you take? I'd say 45 minutes.

Man,
You are lucky. Crispy Kreme's can't be found in South Dakota any more. I love/d me some crispy kreme's before I really started eating healthier.
I could definitely justify wolfing down a half dozen after running some miles. A full dozen?, hmm. I woud need some milk.
Of course we will need some pictures of this, as well as reports of how many times you "lost it" on the way back. A dozen kremes is like 2500 calories.
Good luck man!

My wife and kids are planning on going to cheer me on. Pictures will be taken even if I have to carry it with me.

Do I have to eat all of the doughnuts?
You DON’T have to eat all of the doughnuts. This is why we created the
‘casual’ runner category. But remember, if you don’t eat all 12, you have
not completed the REAL challenge.

¸ 1200 fat calories

¸ 144g of fat

¸ 36g of saturated fat

¸ 0g of trans fat

¸ 60mg of Cholesterol

¸ 120g of sugar

That's 1.2 days of calories. On the treadmill 3 miles for me is about 500 calories. so only about 1/4 of the donut calories will be used up in the race itself... I'm a bit scared, but it's for the kids.

I think the running part actually just makes sure that the fat gets into your arteries faster ;)

dam I think I found my calling...well maybe when I was in college.

I'd grab a dozen donuts and them all day on Friday. Yeah not all in an hour but I think I could do it back then. Now would be a challenge to eat them but the run wouldnt be that bad...

Good luck Tubby
