New Job

I have recently started a new job working for the Department of Education and Training as a Technology for Learning support officer (basically a techie).
For the last 18 months I was running my own tech support business catering to mostly primary and high schools, until the DET rang me and told me they want me to work for them doing basically the same job, except I get a car, pda, laptop, other techie goodies and I get all the perks that come with being a goverment employee.

But one thing that I am finding hard to adjust to is the complete lack of work ethic within the department. The bloke in charge of my region tells me that I should only try and do a few jobs a day!![???]
I reckon that in the month that since I started I have done as much work as I would normally fit into 2 day..... but I guess that leaves more time for spamming :)

Congrats. What do you mean by "perks" ? I'm also wondering about working for the State, not because I don't want to work hard or late per se, but because I now know that what will be remembered from my life isn't to be found in my job. So I want quite some free time. Less money along isn't a problem for me.

So that explains your recent rise in activity! Well, congratulations (I guess)! My view is that if the rest is slacking, that gives you the opportunity to stand out. It might not be really smart to do twice the work as everybody else (for example), then they might think of you as a show off (or a sell out). But perhaps there's some other area you could excell.

Still with the risk of being seen as a show off of course ;) But if you get bored, at least you have enough time to read job advertisements.

Dept of Education's motto - "Aim low and achieve"

Congrats on the job.

Wow. A job like that satisfies all cliches about government jobs.

Nevertheless - I bet it is nice to have the perks, ey?

Congratulations man

now just adapt the work speed of a lazy tortoise and you'll be fine [lol]

Hmm not much spam since this post, I guess you must be setting a new standard for public service.
