Civ 4: What are your plans?

So, what are your plans for the upcoming release of Civ4?

Socrates 11-10-2005 11:45

Voted for the 1st option, but in fact I won't buy it on the 1st day here. I'll wait a tiny bit to see reactions here and at CFC, and also to see if it's better to get the French or the US version (I have no clue about this right now, even if someone tells me the versions will be compatible this time).

Darkness 11-10-2005 11:50

Having bought vanilla civ3 on the first day it was out in the Netherlands, and thus being quite disappointed with the huge load of gamebreaking bugs, I am quite hesitant to buy it immediately...
Maybe I'll look at my girlfriend really nice and then suggest it would be a nice present for "sinterklaas" or Christmas... :);)

It's a shame the game comes out two weeks (or something) after my birthday, otherwise that would have been a nice option too.

Voted option 2

Lt. Killer M 11-10-2005 12:57

I will buy it in the US, I guess :D

Ginger_Ale 11-10-2005 13:12

I will buy it the weekend after it comes out (5-6 days later), to first see reactions from people..

col 11-10-2005 13:29

Pre-ordered.

I can afford to buy a number of games speculatively.

I bought MOO3 and only played it once...

Aggie 11-10-2005 13:55

I will not buy it because my CIV days are over. I would have bought it on the first day and would have taken the day off if things hadn't changed so drastically this year.

barbu1977 11-10-2005 14:44

Going to buy it on the weekend it hits the shelves.

The excitement level will be higher if I don't know hot it's comming out (this is why I do not read too many previews)

digger760 11-10-2005 14:51

I will buy it...or maybe even pre-order if from Amazon. My observation skills are pretty low...i never noticed any bugs in Vanilla civ until you spoil sports here and at CFC pointed them out.

Matrix 11-10-2005 14:55

I'll buy it a.s.a.p.. Bugs don't bother me that much in the beginning, because then I don't know the game that well yet anyway. Besides, I'm just too anxious. ;)

ProPain 11-10-2005 21:23

I'm afraid I;m gonna buy it right away. Me stupid, didnt learn from civ3 and expansions.....

Beam 11-10-2005 21:32

I'll have it as soon as it is available. Somewhere, somehow.

Ville 11-10-2005 21:47

I'll buy it ASAP :D

Whomp 11-10-2005 22:31

Pre-ordered already. I look forward to learning the new game.

grs 12-10-2005 19:09

I have no PC that meets the minimum specs :(

Kemal 12-10-2005 19:18

Oops, I guess that would mean you can't figure in DDPP - Civ4 Edition either... And Aggie is also out, so Killer, wanna play?

[wavey]

If you need someone else besides Killer, because you're still short players for this game, then I'm volunteering. :)

Rik Meleet 12-10-2005 22:41

As soon as it hits the shelfs.

I feel your pain, my PC is the bare minimum. Hoping to get a new one soon, but we'll see.

I am also looking forward to starting MP much earlier - with Civ3 it came too late to start many PBEMs before Civ4 came out, but obviously not this time. Less SP on my own, more SP competitions (well, SGs + Realms Beyond) and more MP.

I'm in, in any case! [goodjob]

And of course you may join, Darkness!

Beam 13-10-2005 00:17

Another volunteer for this DDPP edition. Genuine Dutch, can prove. :)

:(
I can't....

Mostly Dutch though, so that will have to do... ;)

Shabbaman 14-10-2005 22:46

I'm going to buy this as soon as possible and then expect to get my butt kicked in multiplayer the same evening! (in the time it isn't available in the Netherlands yet, the "PTW compensation plan" will be set in motion) [deodorant]

bed_head7 14-10-2005 22:52

Well, I've just preordered it, even though I had intended to wait until the end of first semester. Oh well.

Pastorius 26-10-2005 10:30

Ah. So I am a sucker.

http://www.kalikokottage.com/civ3/su...v4_walk_1.html <-- reading this while waiting for stuff to print at the university (queue)

And wow.

I say again. wow

Probably going to get it now.

Since I am a sucker.

Wonder what the missus will say about that....
can I convince her to get it for me for Xmas? (since I am getting her an mp3 player, but she doesnt know that yet)

Darkness 02-11-2005 13:49

Well, I just let my curiosity get the better of me... ;)
I ordered it from www.play.com for 29 euro's...
It'll take a bit longer to get here, but I am not in any hurry (and I expect/hope to get an English manual)...

Cruise 02-11-2005 16:21

Mine came with a dutch manual and techtree , gah [mad]

Socrates 02-11-2005 20:06

Darkness, I'm hoping it'll be alright for you. I'd like to do the same, but I'm not sure if you get it for 29 € there. I'm in no hurry either.

[???]
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here, Krys...

I did some checking around and play.com's been in business for quite a while now, and from what I can tell their customers seem pleased with their service.
And I am damn sure it'll cost me just 29 euro's. That's what they're charging to my creditcard, and not a cent more (the opposite actually ;))

Beam 02-11-2005 23:44

For ppl wanting to pick it up in a shop: Media Market today sold at 39.00.

I just looked at my order, and they posted it this morning. So, delivery is in 3-5 working days, meaning I'll have it somewhere next week. Fine with me. Now I'll have to hurry and finish that C3C SP Ottoman Deity game I'm playing before it gets here, otherwise I'll probably not finish it... :)

Socrates 03-11-2005 15:01

Darkness, I was just hoping that your shipment would process nicely, and at the price that they mention on their website. In another thread Shabba told me there would be taxes on top of that... But now I'm almost convinced that you only pay 29 € for the whole stuff, and IMHO we should all do the same (if we want the English edition, which I don't put on top or below the French one). I'm even wondering in what language I'll set it up. I remember using the English language for Civ2 in some games when I was bored with French. ;)

EDIT : And me, I started the GOTM of the French website last night (C3C) and have to finish it before Civ4 as well. :)

Kingreno 05-11-2005 16:23

Ok bought it too.

Crashed a whopping THREE times in the first hour. That is a record. [aargh][aargh][aargh][aargh][aargh][aargh].

Matrix 05-11-2005 17:14

And you thought it would be a flop?!

ProPain 05-11-2005 17:44

like KR I'm experiencing quite a few random crashes. Makes you wonder.

Don't know if I get what you mean here. [hmm]

I was going to get it anyways but the crashes are severly limiting the "fun" ATM. A load of eyecandy is delivered by Firaxis but I am wondering at what cost. My machine is fast by many standards but larger games will take even longer to finish then with civ3, if they finish at all...

Hoping for a miraclepatch.[ponder]

akots 05-11-2005 20:56

Ok, I've got it also finally from Amazon. Will try to install in a couple of hours. If there anything that can be done BEFORE the install to make it run?

It is XP Pro with ATI Radeon 9200 running without catalyst but with latest drivers and also I had to uninstall SP2, so running only with SP1 atm. In background I also have zonealarm (might be turn it off is a good idea?), avast antivirus and spybot-SD teatimer.

akots 06-11-2005 02:14

Surprizingly, thr game runs just fine (after some editing of the registry), no problems with performance of other issues, off to read the manual.

I reckoned you wouldn't buy it anyway as you thought it would be a flop, thus no fun to play.

Kingreno 06-11-2005 09:02

Not buying it at all was prevented by various little voices in my head. :)
