Forum Server Warning

Just to let you all know that, after a little look on the server that holds our illustrious forums, the C Drive had 148kb free.

I did a little clearing and got it back to 3Mb however if the site dies or goes kapput or does stupid stuff any time soon this is probably the problem.

If it goes funky please don't hesitate to get a hold of me via MSN even if it does look like I'm busy.

Peace.

[meli]

Melifluous 21-12-2006 18:19

Ok well it would appear that between us, Propain and I have cleared enough space on the server for the time being.

So any problems on the forums are probably user error from now on.

As you were Gentlemen (and Furiey)

Kingreno 25-12-2006 12:42

So what was this then? CDZ has been off-line formore then 3 days!

Matrix 25-12-2006 14:26

And what a lovely timing. [tongue]

Thanks to everyone who made it back up!

IglooDude 28-12-2006 22:59

Could it be? Are we back up?

Socrates 28-12-2006 23:03

Possibly... Or not. [blush2]

socralynnek 29-12-2006 00:58

Must....Post...:Fast....Before....It....Is.....Dow n....Again...

Ginger_Ale 29-12-2006 01:56

will this post crash the server?

Kingreno 29-12-2006 09:00

Will it take that 40 MB upload this time...?

Pastorius 29-12-2006 09:12

How big is this forum anyway?

In terms of spam storage...or whatever

Shabbaman 29-12-2006 09:38

Woohoo! [spam2]

You should have a better idea of that than most... You're one of the biggest spammers around... ;)

ProPain 29-12-2006 14:52

Why we were out?
C: partition of our HD was full, I checked the day before x-mas and all was cool, must have been during the last seconds of uptime. Was away during a few days (x-mas after all) so that's why I didnt notice.

Is our HD full?
Not at all, we have 60GB of free space to fill up. Sadly the ISP (who deserves the reknown fist-in-arse for this) has decided that a small C: partition should be enough for all system files. This c-partition filled up lately and that killed the site. Our D partition, which stores the sites themselves, still has heaps of free space. As far as I know you cant add additional space to a partition so basically we have to make due with what we have.

Will this occur again?
Can't garantuee it won't but for now I freed up half a GB so we should be ok for a long while, I'll try and remember to check the C space once in a while.

Shabbaman 29-12-2006 17:23

[punch]

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense that the primary partition gets full when you do nothing with it. I'd say the ISP tried to install some crap on it (like windows updates) or it's been infected.
It's possible to make the primary partition larger with partition magic. I don't know if that's possible through a remote desktop, and I wouldn't do it without making a backup.

Now, I'd take this opportunity to wish you all a merry christmas. A bit belated, but it's the thought that counts. Heh.

Socrates 29-12-2006 18:08

Or we could switch to a Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP (LAMP) system, with the vB software. [:p] I may not know what I'm talking about though (I mean, really).

IglooDude 29-12-2006 18:31

Assuming no one is actually websurfing from the server console, odds are good that the C-drive space is filling because of log files, which can be easily relocated to the D-drive partition. Or, a script can be scheduled to run daily that deletes anything older than x months old from the logfile folder.

Shabbaman 16-01-2007 22:33

So, I just saw the Plesk screen again. Major Malfunction and General Failure are visiting the ISP again, aren't they?

Beam 16-01-2007 23:26

Both the Major and the General deserve fist in arse.

Shabbaman 04-07-2007 08:13

I'm getting the "Internal Server Error" when I go to active users. Also, I can't upload files (for some time now actually). So, what's up? Time for... the fist? [punch]

Same thing here, but it seems sporadic.

mauer 11-07-2007 16:58

Anyone besides me still getting "500 Internal Server Error" when they do active users?

akots 11-07-2007 17:03

I'm getting it also right now.

Tubby Rower 11-07-2007 17:08

someone implement the Shabba-protocol!! quick

BCLG100 11-07-2007 23:11

Me too, but last night it didn't work for me.

Shabbaman 16-07-2007 21:53

The site was down for me for several hours.

Beam 16-07-2007 22:53

For a number of reasons I think this is DB related:
- Forum was up for me all the time except for posting / replying.
- Meantime other people could post.
- Forum SW (Snitz, php) should work the same for all memebers.
- But everyone also goes thru the MySQL DB and imo that's where the differences in "site experience" come from.

We used to have a well qualified DB guy but he has disappeared to nowhere app. [scratch]

So anybody got experience Microsuck SQL?

Tubby Rower 17-07-2007 02:23

fwiw, I do, but not for forum apps.

MySQL is different than Microsoft SQL. MySQL sucks imo. Microsoft stole the database interface language's name when it came out with Microsoft SQL. we mainly deal with Microsoft SQL with statements generated in VB6 at work to keep track of the nuclear fuel rods and our sister plant in Washington state uses Oracle with stored procedures [puke]

BCLG100 14-08-2007 03:37

anyone else starting to notice the site beginning to run shit again? like taking forever to load things, constant 500 server errors, having to click on something-press stop and click again to get it to work!?

mauer 14-08-2007 03:40

Think you and I are breaking this too?

Beorn 14-08-2007 04:13

Echo the 500 and load times.

akots 14-08-2007 06:53

+1 occasionally though frequency is increasing recently.

I guess this is what I dealt with as well...

Pastorius 15-08-2007 18:21

Got a server warning right now. Reload "fixed" it [hmm]

Shabbaman 09-06-2008 18:03

OK, wtf happened?

Tubby Rower 09-06-2008 19:36

I had to relieve myself and happened to be locked in a server room. I picked the crappiest box to defecate on. I'm really sorry guys.

ProPain 09-06-2008 20:32

Same old, same old. C: drive filled itself up. Thank yo Bill for your crappy software, thank you ISP for your crappy job partitioning the harddrive.

I was away over the weekend to Swingue's wedding, which was in Germany. So that's why I didnt notice before. Sorry peeps.
Cleared up the c- drive, adjusted some settings and now we have over 2GB free again (about 25% of the partition) so we should be ok again for a long time.

And now I'm going to watch The Netherlands - Italy. My new Grolsch minibeertap is ready to go, got snacks ready, kids are in bed. I only need to put in my contacts and I;m ready to go :)

Shabbaman 09-06-2008 23:20

Good that you reset the server. I had your phone number in my IM box... [blush] I´ve stored it in my phone now.

Oh, time for a congratulations thread for Swingue!
