Texas Hold'em Open thread

The game is now up!

View the civstats info at....

Settings:
Archi map (was no option for fractal archi), low seas, huge, no vassals, no tech trading, civs as requested, and all victory conditions enabled. No other special conditions, and the game is on a 20 hour turn time.

DM's will not be tolerated unless the general consensus is that all attempts were made by the DMer to avoid having to do it. Not a lawyer so I don't know how to be ridiculously specific about this, but you're all grown ups and no how to handle this.

BCLG100 12-03-2008 11:44

My start is absolute poo :( hows everyone elses?

Robboo 12-03-2008 12:58

complete crap...

grahamiam 12-03-2008 13:11

Mine's playable

socralynnek 12-03-2008 13:17

Mine is very very....oh wait, i am not even playing this game...;)

Robi D 12-03-2008 13:33

My start is uhhh... well interesting would be a good way to put it

BCLG100 12-03-2008 14:09

I would not be against a restart- just so folk know.

Main reason is i have tundra outside my fat cross and then ice after that.

mauer 12-03-2008 14:15

Yeah, I have an crap starting spot as well. So is everyone cool with a restart then?

Matrix 12-03-2008 14:41

My capital is ok, but I have my doubts about the surroundings.

grahamiam 12-03-2008 14:42

How many times do we want to restart? Can we at least let the other's check thier spot? Maybe you three are the only ones with bad starts.

Matrix 12-03-2008 14:49

Hm, three out of six starts are crap. How much chance do you think there is everyone will have a reasonable start when we restart? By the way, this is what you get with archipelago maps anyway.

If we restart we should ask someone not in this game to generate a map and check the starting positions.

I think thats the best idea. I dont mind playing on with this game just i wouldnt playing a start which has some appeal.

akots 12-03-2008 15:49

Well, starts on archipelago maps are mostly crappy especially after RtW that would seem for China and thus BCLG became quite upset. ;)

Checking the starts by somebody not playing is a good idea IMO, just to make sure that everyone gets a crappy start.

mauer 12-03-2008 15:50

I don't mind playing it either, just thought I'd wait for a yay or nay from you lot :)

I'm fine with this idea if we can find someone (Beam?). I just don't want to keep rerolling starts for a week or so.

barbu1977 12-03-2008 18:22

My start is not bad at all, but how do we judge a good start?

nitro1974 12-03-2008 20:16

I like it! That doesn't mean it's a good or bad start, but it's definately a start that's worth playing...

BCLG100 12-03-2008 20:18

Well lets just carry on then, the majority of people seem happy with their start :)

killercane 12-03-2008 22:10

I get network does not exist when i try to log on to the Hamachi client.

BCLG100 12-03-2008 22:23

Got in and played. Start is fine. Thanks for hosting Mauerdude.

Robi D 13-03-2008 00:12

From what i read no one got a brilliant start, we all seem to have some issues. I would say play on, overcoming a less the ideal start is part of the challenge.

Also as Barbu said, how do you judge how good a start is, it is a subjective thing. One way would be for all of us to post our starting positions but would we all agree to that? Even then we we need a good 20-30 turns exploring to really work out what we have to work with for the begining of the game.

mauer 13-03-2008 01:21

Play on it is then. Good luck to all. Also....Simon is a bastard. Just thought I'd get that out of the way.

Robboo 13-03-2008 02:32

yeah play on... a bad start usually means a prime city nearby... law of averages.

barbu1977 13-03-2008 03:40

OK I had a second look and I have a very nice start, but that does not mean I'm going to have horses, Iron or Cooper!

grahamiam 13-03-2008 03:44

What is the civstat password? I'd like to register the game for the free spam.
thanks

Matrix 13-03-2008 16:03

Killercane and I have got exactly the same colour. [sad] Besides that, there are a lot of subtle variations of red and orange in here which will make it hard to separate each other on the map.

Apart from that, why are there two mauers in the game. [hmm]

akots 13-03-2008 17:07

My start is OK, not quite shining but certainly playable.

IanDC 13-03-2008 17:14

I would describe my start as adequate, depending on what's over the horizon & strategic resources.

Short answer, bodean was over here last night.

Long answer, I've got an army buddy that lives in Kentucky down visiting for the week and I'm on vacation. We decided we would play a game of Axis and Allies Europe, so I called bodean to see if he could swing it. He came over and I reminded him that he needed to play his turn. So he logs in on my computer and forgot to change the display name.

He realises its a daily thing right?

mauer 13-03-2008 22:50

He knows, hope he plays it.

Matrix 13-03-2008 22:58

Well, for the first turn you had to remind him as well... [rolleyes]

killercane 23-03-2008 06:05

Im not able to connect to this game atm, but I can connect to the Arboria game just fine and I see Mauer player and Mauer server on Ham Sushi. Dont need a rollback or anything Im not doing squat but just wondering what was up.

mauer 23-03-2008 06:34

anyone else having problems? I see a few of you haven't finished your turn with under 3 hours to go. I was able to log in, so I'm figuring that KC tooled around with his specs. Well, since he said as much anyways. If we're having problems though, I'll take it down until we fix it and roll back if need be. Just let me know.

akots 23-03-2008 07:01

Don't know, no problem here.
