Deathmatch spoiler

Here's my start:

Without a doubt the most lousy start from all civs as I have 2 core cities on the mongol (Akots) island that I cannever defend and share half my primary island with the aztecs (Matrix). Also athens is ' conveniently ;located in the upper right tip of my empire. Tempted to quit this game before it started. Not balanced at all imo. After the 1 st turn it turned out I'm 5th (last) in MFG, although I upped my lux rate to have no specialist. I;'m doomed. Offered Akots peace untill I conquered Matrix and he Beam for my 2 cities (2 be delivered after the conquests) which he refused. Also told me he would attack me asap. No surprise there. He offered me a 10 turns peace deal which I took.

Not sure what I'll do, but I';m not gonna spend much time on this one.

wow, I thought light green had some possibilities!

Even when you do lose the towns on the yellow island, you are the one with the biggest land conquest ability! You should outproduce matrix' Aztecs at least on that part of the map! If you take that area, I see a future there![cool]

Exactly the reason why I didn't join. It looked way too unbalanced for my taste.

Well, good luck anyways!!! [hammer]

Can't you make alliances with anyone? :(

Skyfish 03-05-2004 07:50

Matrix should have defnitely let more experienced members balance that map ;)
Maybe you should give the game to KR to see what he can do with it :D

In terms of alliances, maybe you can convince someone (the blues) to attack Matrix on his native island while you
concentrate on your core island ! If he is outstretched, theres a slight chance you could come out good...

Quit the game after Matrix attacked. Couldnt bring myself to continue it, it was lost anyway. Retook Knossos and destroyed invasion forces. In a twist of fate I even got a leader, what a waste :). Retired after clearing Greece from the evil aztecs. Interesting part will be to read if people were anticipating on my manhattan build. If so, they might have a problem now it's not gonna be build next turn but in 3 turns.

That was the problem. I mean in "after". If I got them "before" your conquered Matrix, that would be OK.

Indeed, you land grabbing possibility against the Aztec is excellent.

Not really a problem for me akots. You were free to counteroffer which you didnt and it's a bit optimistic to expect me to just hand over my cities isnt it? I can always disband cities when the need arises, always better than handing them over right away. So that wouldn't have made any sense.

BTW akots, you shouldnt read a spoiler from someone who quit the game before the game ends. You could see info you're not allowed to see like screenshots from city investigations from your opponents.

That was exactly the point. I wanted them intact. However, indeed, if you would have disbanded them, that would mean peace also apparently. In general I though you wanted to attack me from these cities since I saw on turn 3 many Modern Armors and Stealth Bombers instead of Mechanic Infantries there. :)

Hows about Matrix trading luxuries with you starting from the very first turn? Isn't it backstabbing or terms like this are not applicable to Death Match? IMO, trade means peace for 20 turns. Or this is also not applicable to Death Match?

My vision of the game was that you have trusted Matrix to stay in peace till turn 20 and meanwhile decided to attack Mongols with everything you have and he just backstabbed you ruining all the plans?

Yes, this is a point, sorry about that. Have not read the other spoilers though and there are no screenies here, so, I guess it is possible to forgive me provided that I promise to stay away in the future? :)

Matrix and Akots, no poblem in my spoiler, but there could have been embassy screenies here from Matrix for example.

On the cities:
I really still don't get the point your making about wanting them intact. How exactly did you expect to get them intact while at war?

On the (sneak) attack:
Well, in human/human games I generally expect the worse. So no peace deal is no peace deal not even if you have a lux deal, which is technically not a peace deal. But that's the way I look at it, there a LOT of different opinions on that.

My plans
But I was hoping to have first strike with my nukes, maybe get 'Our words are backed by nuclear weapons' diplo deal. Didn't really decided who'd be the first to receive the nukes, the diplo would have decided that. Those troops on your island where there for deterance. I didn't want to tempt you into attacking early because my cities were ill defended.

I was planning on scrolling down the cities and rushbuy those nukes, but not sure if I could afford many. I saved up for ages, didn't spend much on rushing or reconning cities, but rushing nukes is expensive. Maybe if I could have nuked your and Matrix' uranium, I could have bought some time where I could build more nukes and you couldnt. Had other drawbacks as that would have meant leaving my workers on my uranium to reconnect after the inevitable stealth bomber attacks.

But the 2 sided war made me end it, even with nukes attacking Matrix meant disbanding my two lone towns on your island and left my 2nd island in the open for any attack.

On the production. (taken from the open thread)
I've shuffled my production a bit in turn 4 or something when I optimised for manhattan. At that point I manually adjusted all my cities and I'm pretty sure I got the most shields possible. If not than I made a mistake. Don't think that would have mattered much, more MM would have lifted me to no1 position in mfg or even in 4th. I had some pollution at some point which forced me to adjust the production, because I needed to import my workers from the other island.

Anyway I hope you all have fun finishing the game. I'll be leaving for Ecuador next saturday, so I'll be seeing the final results when I get back in July I presume.
