I can probably play one more set of turns on friday/saturday, just to top of the addiction before I go cold turkey for a month.

Col.Tarleton 02-06-2004 18:00

O.K. Propain,you take the next turn,after Beam,gives you a bit more time.
We'll need to discuss strategy after Beam gets us into monarchy.

Beam 02-06-2004 22:19

610BC (0):
Thinks look pretty OK. A healthy army and Swordies at our NW borders. Only changed Akshak form Rax to Worker, it only has one shield and quite some food.

IT:
[sleep]

590BC (1):
Archer sees Celts in the S. [aargh] Let them make contact. See some more of the terrain, only worthwile direction for expansion is SW. Hopefully we can get a coast to coast soon.
It also means a LOT of jungle clearing ahead.

IT:
No Celtic contact, isn't this stretching the rules? ;)

570BC (2):
Zabalam founded in the NW.

IT:
Still no Celtic contact, will do so next turn.
Two Camel archers attack a Reg Swordie. We have a Vet Swordie now. :)

550BC (3):
Some SW exploration reveals another French border.

Contact Brennus "without Iron", dictator of the Celts and declare war. He is way behind in techs.

IT:
Research Mon > Constr. and go into anarchy. Lucky shot, 3 turns!

530BC (4):
Anarchy

510BC (5):
Supposed French borders are Spanish. I am doing a piss poor job scouting around our borders. :(

490BC (6):
Anarchy

IT:
Can't stand Isabella's charms and exchange Constr. + 15 gold for Mon. on her request. The Sirens almost got me.

490BC (7):
Back in Monarchy, we are at war with 6 AI now. Currency in 9 at -19.

470BC (8):
Not a lot.

450BC (9):
Celt units show up, Swordies on the move.

IT:
A Swordie on a hill survives 2 Celt Archers and a Warrior and promotes to Elite. :)

430BC (10):
Just build 2 settlers and there hardly is a favourable spot for 'm. All other settler builds are changed to libs / swordies.

410BC (11):
Some cities grow and MM'ing brings Curr 1 turn closer.

That's it for me pals, Civ junkie PP is next and he will bring us in the MA!

I also feel we need to discuss Strat a little knowing the Civs around us. I am tempted to take the Celts out because they seem to be on the best land around us and we don't wanna let'm have Iron!

Very nice,Beam, safely into monarchy and almost ready to go on the offensive.
I suggest building a slew of Inkies, they only cost 10 shields,to free up our swords.
Objective #1..Elephantine to deny the Gyppos iron.
#2....drive south, take the furs and if possible expand south.
Build F.P. in Lagash or Kish,I think it makes no never no mind where it is built in conquests.
Build some temples.
Play as many turns as you wish,P.P. and then bugger off to darkest South America.[lol]
I'd also build some cats but that seems to be too defensive for our agressive Generals.
Byz and France have no iron,as yet and Beam says that Ragnar is also lacking iron.

Banzai 03-06-2004 14:12

Sa wa di crab!
Hey Guys,

Here a message from me! I'm now in Chaing Mai, Thailand and it is awesome here!
Just got a "relaxing" massage by an really good looking Thai girl!

How is the game going? doing alright without me?
Nice picture Tarly!

Time for me to go back doing the normal things you do on a vacation like this ;)

Banzai!

Col.Tarleton 03-06-2004 14:55

Banzai, you little devil, nice to hear from you.
I hope your not doing too much legovering.[lol].We're doing OK without you so you can stay in Thailand for another month.Take some pics, the ruder the better.[party]

Banzai 06-06-2004 08:50

I wish I could stay for another month, but my boss won't be happy!

I'm now in Mayhong Son, northwest of Thailand at the border with Birma. It is about 35 degrees with a nice burning sun! Sweat is dripping from almost every part of my body, but it is worth it.
I'm going to jump in the swimming pool soon.

I've just visited the long neck tribe where the women wear a collar or something like that to strech the neck. I'll post a picture when I get back to Holland.

Tomorrow I fly back to Chiang Mai for another 2 hour massage :D. I'll try to make a nice picture for you Tarly :)
Next I take the train back to Bangkok and travel futher south to spend 2 days at the beach. After that I fly back to Holland.

The last two weeks were very exciting and I've seen lots of things, like small temples, medium temples, medium-large temples, large temples... All of them have nice buddha statues. Some of them are made of pure gold and are 10 meters high!
I'll post some pictures next week!

See you later!!

Banzai!

Col.Tarleton 07-06-2004 16:14

Sounds like a good time is being had by all,Banzai.
Propain didn't play his turn and is now away for a month,Banzai returns on the 10th june,I think.Matrix is busy until July.
I'll try to play before Banzai returns.
What do you think,Beam?

Col.Tarleton 08-06-2004 13:43

I played 20 turns to get the game moving.
As there is so much action,I've condensed the turns to 7.7.6.Early.Middle.Late.
Basically I don't think that I did very well.It will need a great general to pull us out of the clag.I think that we have the troops to attack the AI,now.
Early.turns 1 to 7.
I tried to get a sod together to attack south, the Celts, but the AI started to come at me from all points of the compass.
I built trebuchets and finally walled our most vulnerable cities.
Hardly any infrastructure was built,I may have been over cautious.

Stats:-
Total losses 2 swords.
AI losses 6 archers
1 spear
3 warriors
1 horse
1 sword.
12 to 2.
trebuchet hits,1 misses 0.

Turns 8 to 14.
Our losses 5 swords + 1 archer.
I lost 3 swords on the trot trying to defeat 1 num merc.

AI losses: 4 archers
9 warriors
2 swords
1 num merc
1 horse
1 spear.

treb hits 8 misses 0.

total losses 6 to 18.
very dodgy[help]

Turns 15 to 20.
Our losses:- 2 swords.

AI losses:- 10 archers
4 spear
3 Gallic swords
1 warrior
1 sword
1 horse
1 num merc.

trebuchet:- hits 21 misses 6.

Total:- 21 to 2.

Sum total of all 20 turns:-
our losses 9 swords
1 archer

AI losses:-
20 archers
5 spears
13 warriors
3 horses
4 swords
2 num mercs
3 gallic swords

A ratio of 50 to 10,or 5 to 1.
This is not good enough for always war.

Our units are:-
2 settlers in Isin
17 workers
6 archers
19 swords
1 pike
1 M.I.
20 enkidu warriors
14 trebuchets
There are only a few troops coming in weat of Bad and Erech.
Our problem is not having only 1 front to defend. The AI are coming from all points of the compass. It all looks very dodgy to me.
If we attack the egyptian city due north it is on a hill, likewise due south the Celtic city.To take either of these 2 cities you will need half a dozen trebuchets.
We have 10 turns of our Golden Age left.
Oh woe is me.[ponder]
